Hi, this is the project I just started. Skyfire always has been for me one of my favorite transformers (surely no. 1), I have always wanted to have a Skyfire size Masterpiece, even makes a few years was in talks with FrenzyRumble me do one, did a design and everything, but leaving me budget and not just be the given result that convinced the most easy was to be based on the Valkyrie of the G1. I thought several times to make one myself seeing the result I had with Star Saber was not bad, look for pieces to make different features of Skyfire parts but never find that seem correct to me. The case is by some or other never I removed the head item, since although it now seems that Takara has gotten full with the Masterpiece line, I do not think that someday will give us a Skyfire Masterpiece able (at least in terms of size). But at the end the wait had its fruits. A few months ago I saw the Custom that was doing "Wikkid" and the truth is that I loved it (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/494077-masterpiece-skyfire.html), subsequently went to "Spurt Reynolds" so he painted it and this was the final result (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/635056-masterpiece-skyfire.html) The custom of "Wikkid" captures the essence of Skyfire pretty well but there's something in the proportions that I had not just convincing, especially in the part of the thighs. As a result of this custom "Dawgstar" began performing their own version of Skyfire based on "Wikkid" and currently still in process at the following link (http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radicons-customs/504745-my-jetfire.html) at the beginning made his own head, though he later left with a copy of the head of the custom of "Wikkid" "Spurt Reynolds" had him cloned from the original, by those dates, I discovered, thanks to "Echotransformers" and their parts for Hercules, the existence of Shapeways (Shapeways - Make & Share Your Products with 3D Printing) along with a few tutorials of the own "Wikkid" on how to work the styrene and as my profession I have notions of design 3D with Autocad, finally saw heaven opened. I got in touch with "Wikkid" to ask for permission to "Dawgstar" to clone a head of Skyfire for me, he gave me and "Dawgstar" made me head (many thanks to the two, incidentally as a result of my request "Dawgstar" sells copies of the head on its website along with some incredible customs made by the same with styrene (Dawgstar's Sales Page - Dawgstar's Heavy Scratch Custom Transformers custom transformer designer and transformer manufacturer). After this I bought what I needed to try to make my custom (Optimus Ptrime KO to use base, a scale model of an F-14 to use different pieces and several sheets of styrene) and I got to schemed how I could do it This is without a doubt my custom project more complicated because although the base is an Optimus Prime Masterpiece KO again, this time I have no parts that can be used to do this with Star Saber and I'm going to have to design myself. And after this story I always amount and will that surely most mind shit, I started with the project itself Phase 1 - Predesign: First thing I did was think how I wanted it to be my Skyfire, it was clear what I was failing in the custom of "Wikkid" (always in my personal opinion that the custom is incredible) theme that was on the one hand to have scaled the figure with respect to Optimus Prime Masterpiece, he enlarged the entire waist to chest and legs and arms but did not increase the thighs that is what produces the disproportion and on the other hand the transformation is Valkyrie style with arms below the body when Skyfire in the G1 becomes getting arms from above between the back and the Jet-Pack although animators make them disappear directly (if we look closely, each time that transforms you see where are the arms and when in robot mode and he looks from side you can see the Jet-Pack you have glued to the back If not that is separated and has space where to place the arms but then they always hit the Jet Pack on his back in ship mode. Once I had this clear I started thinking how it could carry out my idea to ensure that you provided and I started to calculate and estimate dimensions and designs of the pieces I would need to put to figure base and to think that changes should be made and the figure base to be able to fit everything. A very important change will be an increase in the KO thighs of about 3.50 cm figure gain in height. I have clear as I want to work the figure and how it can transform, how difficult is to put it into practice and who can build as I thought, but the basis of what I do I have in the head and you should be able to operate, the problem is that I haven´t a large base of pieces for use as American and British customizers, but will be what you can. Also try to have the fewest possible pastforming, although we are sure that you will have to exist in some cases (by pastforming I mean extra parts that are used for a particular mode of the figure and then not going nowhere in another mode (like the extras of the combiners for example) or parts which to transform them you should remove them from the figure and then put them on another site). Once all parts were designed have constructed them with wood to put them on the KO and see how the proportions and how each thing enters your site. With these pieces I finally could see how it could be the thing and I need to change to make it work. I put a few pictures of how the figure could be more or less in ship mode and in robot mode (the subject of thighs increasing have done it with photoshop since I do not want them cut up to be not clear as they should be). Keep in mind that they are a crappy wooden pieces I've done, are supposed that the final be quite better. Ship mode: Robot mode: And tip a comparison of size with the Masterpiece: Phase 2 - Final design: The realization of these wooden pieces I have been very useful because I could see that it works and which not. As always I will give priority to the robot mode but always trying to alternate mode is also decent. As you can see the figure it will be quite acceptable in robot mode and a little worse in ship mode. As a result of the pre-design think slightly improve the proportions of the Jet-Pack and above all to the nose of Skyfire giving it a little more volume always that permitted me the transformation. At this point I already have pretty clear as it has to be everything, I still resolve several issues of transformation but figure is fully articulated and transformable with the joints of the KO, the arms extra parts may rotate to allow enter and exit at the hands of the arms. The Jet Pack will have a mechanism that I have designed so that you can download and upload back to the position occupied in two modes, also in mode robot folds onto itself to zoom in more back and make it not so separate and wings will be folding up and will be introduced in the Jet-Pack to make mode robot does not look very large. The main cabin and undercarriages doors may open. Unfortunately there will be pastforming, the head will need to remove that won't fit through the opening in the chest and inside the chest is a piece that makes longer nose. Undercarriages will be removable, even if the floodgates are practicable, landing gears do not fit inside for what will have to be remove to close the floodgates. Finally I will have to create a bottom cover for the area of the chest in mode ship where goes the cargo bay that I can not put into any site when in robot mode. Since I do not have media professionals I have no remedy that do so as well. With everything that I've said I'll have to create to figure the following parts each with a different material: -Two feet and two heels (styrene). -Two liners for the legs with opening of undercarriage (styrene). -Two rear landing trains (model F-14). -Both knees (thought to make them with shapeways but having straight lines boy try again with styrene). -Two extensions for the thighs (styrene). -Two front skirts for waist (shapeways). -Two side skirts for waist (styrene). -Two centerpieces for chest (shapeways). -Nose of the ship into two pieces with opening for landing gear (shapeways). -Seat for the main cabin (model F-14). -Main practicable and cab of the fixed in semi-transparent material (shapeways) jet-Pack. -Front landing gear (Model F-14). -Two extensions to the back of the arms and two triangular pieces to the front (styrene). -Two circular pieces for the biceps (styrene). -Two pieces of the shoulders (shapeways, this I am afraid that it will be the most complicated of design). -Head of Skyfire (cloned from "Wikkid"). -Jet-Pack with internal mechanisms (styrene). -Two pairs of wings (initially I thought use of the scale model of the F-14 but if I see that they are too small I'll have to make styrene). -Cover for the cargo bay in ship mode(styrene). -Double gun (from KO gun). In principle I think that not I forget anything else. I am currently sizing parts definitely and I must start the design of parts in Autocad. Phase 3 - Construction of parts: When you are finished designing parts in Autocad and send them to Shapeways I can begin to construct styrene parts. Phase 4 - Final assembly: Phase 5 - Primer and painted: As you can see this will be a project long and complicated, as you go along you go telling how go me and making some progress. I hope your views and comments to the project, to see what you think. A greeting.
Incredible! You are doing this exactly the right way by making a quick mockup first. Consider also assembling Shapeways parts + styrene for complex geometry or to add detail. For example the backpack has a curved section in alt mode that would be very hard to sculpt in styrene, so you could make a thin cap in shapeways to make it perfect. Also you could make little glue-on parts that add detail to the feet and legs (hoses, valves engine parts, panels, etc.) again, thin and low cost to add to your amazing design. Good luck, can't wait to see how this turns out.
This is some great work here! The only thing I can offer here is perhaps consider the size of the wings. From an aerodynamic standpoint, they're a bit on the small side. I can't wait to see more of this!
Hi buddy good news to see the w.i.p and head fits very. Thanks for including us guys in the 1st post I'm sure that wickkid and spurt also like it. I think the wings look spot on. I will be back on to mine early next year after swoop and sludge are finished. Keep up the good work. All the best DS.
Great build! Can't help the fact that Hasbro or Takara will never make Skyfire ,at least not in proper scale,so I'm planing this build myself too Just need to find junker MP OP sometimes soon
This looks great, will be watching this thread with much anticipation, I do wonder what the cost will end up as, Have you thought of making duplicates of every part, incase you feel like making a couple more.
First I'm going to make this and see how it comes out, then we'll see if what you say since most of the parts have to build by hand is possible. First I'm going to make this and see how it comes out, then we'll see if what you say is possible since most of the parts have to build by hand.
