Annoyingly, the Eisners website only lists the past winners and not all the nominees, but based on a Google search of all pre-2023 mentions of articles containing both "Transformers" and "Eisner Award," these look to be the first nominations for a Transformers comic.

Like, I'm talking Unicron and Primus levels of HUGE.

Were any other TF comics even considered for nomination for the Eisner Awards?!

Man, the Skybound era is seriously winning…

I haven't picked up any comics for years, haven't paid much attention on the industry news side even longer, and I'm more a DC than a Marvel guy but... where's the Marvel comics stuff in the nominees? Are Marvels that bad now?

I don't keep up with Marvel that much myself, but do you know about Paul and his impact on the Spider-Man fanbase?

I don't really read marvel stuff (or any super hero stuff for that matter) but from what I have been reading this is a fairly significant snub. You're not the only one surprised at how few marvel comics are on the list.

Hmm.... sorry I wouldn't know a comic artist/writer famous enough to go by just Paul as a first name basis. I just don't follow the comic industry to know anything more than a total newbie, but as I saw the list I just can't but notice the Marvel or any recognizable (for me) Marvel comic character name is missing.

Are comic readers just over Marvels, kind of like the MCU movies rout right now too?

    Allow me.

    -ahem-

Paul refers to a character from the current run of Amazing Spider-Man by Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr. with other artists like Patrick Gleason and Ed McGuinness filling in for JRJR sometimes.

Paul is this guy MJ allegedly hooks up with due to stuff.

Said stuff starts when Peter and MJ are ambushed by Benjamin Rabin and sent off to a dead world crawling with Wayeb monsters. Paul meets them, claiming that his variant of Rabin tortured him and he has a device that can take Peter or MJ home. Peter being Peter insists on MJ be the one to go home while Paul argues that it should be Peter because if Pete dies, then they're really screwed. They are ambushed and MJ sends Pete home with the device.

Peter, realizing that years in the bad world is only a few hours in the main earth, literally scrambles like hell to find some way to bring MJ home. He winds up so desperate, he unwittingly burns bridges with all the heroes and teams up with Norman Osborn to steal pieces that can brute-force Pete back to the bad world. But by the time he gets there, MJ has apparently bred with Paul to have kids.

However, as Pete was racing the clock, MJ violently insists to Paul that they wait for Pete to come back. During the waiting, MJ and Paul (allegedly?) bond and find two kids in a shack, scared of something they call The Scribble Man. MJ and Paul adopt the kids. Years pass for them. Cue Pete coming back and getting cuckolded.

Peter finds out Paul is Rabin's son, MJ reveals Paul told her that already, and equates Paul's apparent "guilt" to Peter's guilt of getting Uncle Ben killed. This gets Pete to back off.

Stuff happens and it turns out the annoying ugly kids no one likes are just constructs made by Rabin and they disappear…but MJ is still hanging out with Paul and is now a superhero called Jackpot, much to the confusion and frustration of all readers.

TL;DR: Paul is a guy MJ is hanging out with in the current Amazing Spider-Man run. Nobody likes him because he's just a nobody whose sole purpose is to keep Peter and MJ apart in a stupid way. And he never thanks Peter for saving him. AT ALL.

Now go read Ultimate Spider-Man by Jonathan Hickman, because that's good literature.

Oh man, comics do multiversal stuff constantly, since it's easier (and cheaper) in a comic medium instead of live-action or animation.

Also, if you do choose to read the Zeb Wells Spider-Man run, buy it second-hand or pirate it, since I am not a fan of financially supporting products that I dislike.

Skybound is the first piece of TF media that I look forward to since DOTM/ TFA ended (excluding Sakamoto’s work). Johnson can’t stop cooking with new issues…
