http://money.cnn.com/2008/03/24/technology/xm_sirius.fortune/?postversion=2008032417 While it is about time this finally happened (It's been over a year. Oil companies, major appliance companies, phone companies, and more have merged in a matter of weeks since the XM/Sirius merger was announced) I'm hesitant to be very happy about it. Not until we get more details on what happens to us subscribers, our current radio's, and what not. Though it will be nice to have the NHL and Howard Stern on the same Satellite Radio service.
i can seem to recall that both companies said that they could lower subscriber fees if approved. I remember $10 being thrown around. Its been a while though, and my memory may be incorrect.
They did say that, but they also said you'd have to pay extra for "premium" channels, which I would assume would be Howard Stern and the like. I mean, they are paying him $500,000,000. They need to make that up somewhere.
i used to get XM. I got 2 devices for free when my friend couldnt aford the $15 anymore. I have considered getting the service again. I am goina wait and see what up! I loved the comedy channels.
I've been tempted to get Sirius or XM. I've used both and liked them both for different reasons, but with the two merging it would be nice to be able to get the best of both worlds.
If they keep both Stern and O&A as they are on there own channels my interest in actually going satellite will increase substantially.
Same here, J.D. I've had Sirius since Stern went live. I was introduced to XM last year when I purchased a new vehicle. I refuse to live without them both now :| Longest-Merger-EVER.
Ah this is what I was looking for. Anthony took some heat over the picture but said “He walked up an offered to shake my hand. What was I supposed to do? Jump up and smash his face? Don’t be stupid. Anyway we might be working for the same company soon and will have to make nice.” Or something to that effect.
Buzz Yeah, that picture is photoshopped, but they did meet at the Borgata in AC last month. Stern's looking to make some serious cash from this merger too. Besides the $500 million he was paid in 2006, he supposedly has 39 million shares of Sirius stock, from reports. When the merger finally goes through, those shares are expected to be worth somewhere around $2 billion total.
