I hope we get a sequel movie that ends it with a good final farewell. They were supposed to make sequels and the movie made a large profit so I'm surprised it hasn't happened.

same reason why people hated Animated, and got happy when it ended....same reason why people got happy when the Alternator line was put on "hiatus"....same reason why people hate DOTM toys....same reason why people hated King of the Hill, and reveled in its cancellation.....

I still watch it from time to time. I do feel that it has run it's course, and is pretty much hit and miss with the lolz for the last couple of years (IMO), so if it does end, as others have stated, I hope they go out with a bang.

King of the Hill wasn't a bad show even with its untidy artwork. No other comedy has been able to make me laugh for hours besides KotH. It's sad to see Simpsons die. No other TV show has been as accessible to new viewers as the Simpsons and have such a high episode count at the same time.

Maybe Groening will put more focus on Futurama now, which imo is far superior to The Simpsons...I got bored of it after the movie, although I will admit there have been the occasional episodes that have really been funny, but not as many as there used to be

Too bad it looks like the Fox executives just want the useless nobodies who only put their channel on the map in the first place to take all the hits from this lousy economy because it certainly can't be their repeated greenlighting of junk and cancellation of hits that's at fault. I don't doubt advertising revenue might be down, judging by the proliferation of ads for Viagra clones to the point that they just about crowd out everything else, but election season is coming and there's bound to be tons of money flushed down that toilet.

Sad news for all of the fans of the show, but I'm sure that the Simpsons will continue to be shown as re-runs for decades to come.

My first reaction was disbelief, almost hoping it would be saved, or at least there might be another movie or two.

..but then i remembered i haven't even checked to see if this season had started yet.

I still expect Fox to mlik this for every cent possible.

The Simpsons worked when it first came out. It was truly a show for the 90's - it had 90's humor, the "typical" 90's family of a mother/father/son/daughter/daughter, teen bullying, awkward situations, and 90's stereotype jokes (Abu, the cops, Moe, etc.)

Sadly it's time has passed and it is time for the show to either change or go away.

    It chose to go away.

    RIP.

One hand, agreed. On the other? They worked on an immense hit show for over 20 years, and now they are expected to take a huge paycut while also never seeing another dime from syndication and merchandise.

Honestly, if this happened to the (voice) actors of any other show, I would be up in arms. I don't care for the Simpsons anymore, but I can't be a hypocrite and decry them for not willing to go along with Fox' unreasonable expectations that spit in the face of all their hard work.

So is it officially over or are people just eager to write epitaphs?

So wait, what was all that about "even if the cast takes the cut, the show will only go on for another season"?
Like, when they say it's going to "keep going" here, do they just mean that extra season or have we returned to the status quo?

Might have only been a gambit or a publicity stunt for all we know.

Let him rage if it makes him feel better. This is the proper place for it.
