Like many, I wasn’t too keen on the official transformation for PoTP Volcanicus. In searching for fan-modes, I found the one I liked but was leery about leaving so much weight hanging on that shoulder joint. I decide to find a way to support the weight as well as keep Grimlocks arms “locked” together behind him. After a couple of complex iterations involving Kre-O parts, I decided to raid my sons Bionicle bin and try a simple beam. Pressing the posts in did stress the Lego part a little, but the concept worked. You could enlarge the holes slightly to fit the pegs, but I’ll probably be painting this once I have a final assembly anyway. Not only does it lock things together nicely, but it rests on the waist hinge and takes all the weight of the limbs.

It also makes a great attachment point for a couple backpack/wing ideas I’m fiddling with. I’d like to take a look at using it to hold some sort of oblique filler too.

Along with the backpack, I wanted to fill in that chest as well. Again, using Lego bits, I found a piece that plugged into the hole inside the chest area and fitted a painted block to it.

If anyone has other ideas, feel free to share. Thanks for checking this out.

I like the concept. It makes him look just a tad better, which is great.

    **Update**

Just wanted to share how my Volcanicus ended up. I had a loose ankle joint so mine wouldn’t stand reliably. My son came up with the tail idea and I liked it enough to run with it. Now he stands up nice a sturdy!

Also added some side fillers. Everything is connected to the backpack using the shoulder lock I installed in the original post.

Very nice result! Is the tail also a Bionicle thing?

This setup makes a great alternative to paying 40-60$ for those upgrade kits... rather dig it.

I love how much more solid and built he looks here. And the tail is aces!

Yup, everything attached to him is Bionicle. The tail is made up of chest plates with some armor coverings. Finding the right swivel joints took some time, lucky for me my son is fluent in Bionicle construction. I tried making a weapon too, but it just didn’t seem to fit.

Theres an old titan bionicle, axion, i think. Hes got a perfect axe for you to use. Granted that figure is probably 13 years old.

Yah, that would be perfect. Initially I was trying to build a double bladed weapon using the "wings" on my Volcanicus back, but I couldn't build anything that looked decent. Also tried to come up with a giant scythe. I think either one of those would be appropriate for this guy

Wow, I very much want to do this. Do you happen to have a list of names for the bionicle figure's parts that were used, or could possibly photograph the parts individually. I'm somewhat familiar with the bionicle line but not quite sure where to start.
    Thanks

To be honest, I have no idea which sets the parts came from. My son has a huge bin of Bionicle parts and I just used days worth of trial and error to find parts that fit and looked like they belonged there. The beauty of the assembly tho, is that it pretty much comes apart by pulling one pin out. So I can take it off and take pics of it pretty easy. I will make sure to do that this weekend for you.

Sounds good, and no big deal with names as it is I found some of the parts on some aliexpress listings but have quite a bit of figures without their names so identifying them by parts may be the best option. I did find the wings were part of one figures' axe.

I will take a bunch of pics this weekend and try to make it obvious how it goes together. I’ll do a handful of steps kinda like Lego instructions
