That would explain a lot, but it still demonstrates that he's not a real gamer.

He doesn't say he's a gamer, he says he plays games, I think theres a difference there. Whether or not its Tetris or Links means he's not totally against Video Games as a whole.

And I think the legal enforcement of age restriction is perfectly OK (IMO). If as has been said that some stores enforce their own age restriction rules, what difference would it make if it WERE law? Just out of curiousity.

Dude, don't go there. I've tried to ask, and pointed out the positive ramifications of such a law... but the cultural difference really gets in the way.

That was painful to watch...as valid as Sesslers points may have been, he just comes off as crazier than Jack.

This is the United States. Freedom of "speech" (all forms of expression) supercedes everything unless it can clearly be shown that it wrongly or irresponsibly harms others. The government is not to arbitrarily decide what people "should" or "shouldn't" read/hear/see. It's the job of the parents to decide what they want their children to have access to and the job of the retailer to determine who they are willing to sell to. It has never been demonstrated that mature video games harm children, therefore government restriction is completely inappropriate until that changes.

If you can clearly demonstrate that games with violent or sexual themes harm children you'll have a point. That's never happened.

Actually, demonstrating harm would be the job of psychology and sociology, not politics.

Will parents ever be held accountable for the actions of their children? What happened to being a parent? I never shot up my school because I feared my parents more than the Devil himself. Stop giving children rights. Let parents put the fear of God in their children. Then we wouldn't worry about kids shooting up other people and saying, "Uhh, Super Mario told me to."

If Jack Thompson has a problem with it, it must be a good game!

{edit} also, I agree with Kickback and everyone else who brings this up.

Whenever I rent or buy a movie, I watch first before I let the kids watch it, to see if it's appropriate.

When the kids ask me for a game, I look into it to make sure it's appropriate, I mean I'd never let my kids play any games that are not age-appropriate just like I'd never let them watch movies that aren't.

People need to stop trying to get everything regulated and do some regulating their selves.

Hell, I even make sure parents know what games their kids are buying at my work, and some of the time the parents are familiar with the ratings system.
