So with the times being what they are, I decided to hop back into the customizing world. I picked up and extra set of the seeker 3 pack as well as two Starscreams to do some parts swapping. Up first was Sunstorm. I know there's a good chance Hasbro will give us this but with how they Went about Hotlink I wanted to recreate something more cartoon accurate. Naturally I used Novastorm as a base. I dyed the thing using orange RIT and managed to get a bit of a gradient effect that I was hoping to achieve. I swapped out the upper arms and thighs with Starscream's and it was done. Bitstream was next. Took Ionstorm and replaced his his upper arms and thighs with another Starscream's and left it at that. Up next Blackout, I saw the G2 plans for this and thought it'd be a good use of the spare Starscream parts. Dyed everything black and threw in Bitstream's left overs. Thought I'd throw in the in-progress G2 Sandstorm. Made of the remnants of the other Starscream and Sunstorm I dyed everything in brown then smudged some Testors Tan and Rust. I was trying as best as I could to avoid any paint work but felt like this needed it. And finally Nacelle as derived from the G1 episode. Acidstorm being green was a pain in the ass to turn dark blue so after dyeing the figure for a while I opted to try and create a Hasbro/Netflix effect with spraypaint. I then took paint thinner to create a battle damage effect by wiping the paint off in some spots. Tomorrow I'll see what that results in. Thank you for reading/looking in. Will post updates and possibly better photos tomorrow evening.
Update: What was supposed to be Nacelle is finished but is no longer Nacelle. Instead I found this unnamed G2 fella in with Blackout and Sandstorm and decided they're more of a match. There's no name for him so I'm tentatively going with Jungle-Jet as a play on Jumbo And then there's the finished Sandstorm. My next update will be when the base for Nacelle comes in/new Rainmakers arrive for group shots. Until then hope you all enjoy
Sandstorm's paintjob makes me think Operation Desert Storm. These all look great! Have you tried putting the null-rays in the shoulders?
The shoulder pegs aren't the tightest that's why I've opted for the forearms. I'll post some pics with the shoulders once I finish Nacelle and get my new set of rainmakers for group photos
my rainmakers have the same problem, wrapping a tiny piece of scotch tape around the pegs tightened it up, hope that helps.
A few updates. So as good as the Netflix Hotlink figure looks, it just doesn't capture the G1 essence of the character for me. So I made my own. Thundercracker chest, thighs, torso, forearms, feet, and interior parts of the nosecone. Starscream parts for the rest. The flamethrower is CW Onslaught's gun, a cut piece from a cellphone charger cord and TR Sentinel Prime's gun all glued together. Next up is Nacelle based on the G1 episode. There's one tiny tweak that I'll make and that is to switch out the black armband area for a grey one, once my next Starscream arrives. He's mainly Thundercracker parts dyed darker blue, with the exception of his lower legs being Starscream parts dyed dark grey. And lastly, Ice Storm. Originally I wanted to make a representation of each of the unreleased G2 seekers, this one being based on the light blue and white cloud deco of Ramjet. This eventually evolved to my own take on a popular custom of yesteryear. He's another Thundercracker and Starscream left overs mix, spray painted using silver and dark blue, with a bit of white testors enamel paint dabbed on. Tetrajet group shot I await two more Starscreams now, one for Slipstream and the other as of yet undecided. Once those two are done I'll try and get some photos of the full roster of the "other guys" (all non original six seekers) and hopefully in much better light.
Final update Slipstream. G2 unreleased group shot: Sandstorm, Blackout, Chemtrail(naming liberty) and Icestorm. Welcoming committee: Seekers (minus the main 6) Thanks for looking
Nicely done. They're looking good. Sunstorm's my favorite because of the gradients. He looks like a sunset.
Awesome! My favorite one is probably the jungle camo (is that the one you called Chemtrail?) it kind of reminds me of one of the extras from season 2 that was colored like Onslaught. Blackout looks really good too.
