Hey, everybody, hope you're all doing well. Today I have another Siege Megatron custom to show you. Today's custom wouldn't have been possible without the skills of garage kit extraordinaire Tim Heada. He's responsible for all the additional armour and weapons on this custom. Additional thanks to ToyHax for providing the labels on Megatron's chest and backpack. After taking his first life, Megatron fled to the underground gladiatorial pits of Kaon. Over the course of many cycles, and after dominating many challengers (some of whom being cycles ), Megatron built up his body with more armour and an array of black market weaponry. Wishing to overturn the old order, Megatron led an uprising against the establishment, eventually uniting political activists, criminals and others who simply enjoyed chaos and violence under the name Decepticons. This is how Megatron would look through much of the Great War, until the escalation of Aurobot and Decepticon conflict would bring Megatron to Earth. Aside from outfitting Siege Megatron with heavy armour and additional weaponry, I have changed the layout of red on his body to better match some depictions from the comics. All my painted work is enamel paint brushed on by hand. Megatron wore a gray helmet through much of the Great War, so I've painted it to match his appearance in Megatron Origin. The red forehead details are hand painted using a sharpened toothpick as a brush. A lot of repainting went into converting Siege Megatron's tank barrel into this early version of Megatron's fusion cannon. Much more gray paint, as well as a 5mm dowel rod to fill a hole through the cannon, changed the weapon into something that ensures a fair fight is the other guy's problem! I'm not going to lie, transforming Megatron into vehicle mode does require a near-unacceptable amount of parts-forming. Fortunately the main focus of this custom, for me, is the bulked up robot mode. Thanks for looking. If you like my work I always appreciate your likes. Also, whatever your thoughts and opinions might be I'd love to read about them in the comments down below. Also, if you like this Megatron, you might also like my custom Miner Megatron over in this thread. Stay well and be careful if you have to go outside. And, as always, take it easy. ~L~
Your work is crazy good, I can't wait to see your takes on his latter, more battle wary forms across IDW's original universe.
I can give you the recipe, if you're looking to make your own. I used: 1x WfC Siege Megatron (regular retail version) 1x Tim Heada gap fillers (from TFSafari.com) (these come unpainted and unassembled, so there's little bit of work involved in getting them ready) 1x Tim Heada "High Quality Upgrade kit for Siege Megatron" (from eBay) (these haven't been available for a while, but they might've been made as a short first run to gauge interest. Maybe there will be more on the way?) 1x ToyHax Megatron (G1) label set (from ToyHax.com) The rest was just painting and redecorating. I use enamel paints because I find they dry really well onto most plastics and are very durable (I like to pose and play with my customs when they're done, so the paint needs to be able to stand up to gentle handling.) After I unscrewed the blades from Megatron's gun/sword accessory I filled the 5mm shaft with a dowel rod and painted over the exposed ends. I'm not sure what else there is to tell. If you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them. Take it easy! ~L~
And here we are again...another fine example of a much needed representation. More more detail here with the retool but still nothing outside of a "Selects" release. Highly impressive work.
That grey for the helmet looks excellent. What color did you use? I think it would look good on the 35th anniversary figure's helmet too.
It's Revell Email Colour Matt 78. It's not written on the tin, but if you're getting some from a store with a Revell display rack the paint is (very appropriately) called Tank Gray. ~L~
Hey sorry for reviving an old thread, but this looks amazing! I recognize the forearm fillers from Tim Heada's Megatron kit, but what are the shoulder pieces from?
Thank you very much! The shoulders, leg panels and small guns were all in a kit made by Tim Heada and sold on eBay. I can't remember who I bought from, but the kits are still kicking around eBay. Here's one of them, and another here. (Both these sellers are ones I buy from regularly, so I know they're reliable sources.) ~L~
