My headcanon believes that a "Cybertronian helicopter" is nonexistent. If you are of the opinion that Cybertron does not have an atmosphere, then that automatically rules out helicopters as a viable form of transport. If Cybertron does have an atmosphere, while a helicopter would be plausible, it would seem to be an altmode more suited for Earth, where attack copters are the most advanced hover-in-place gunships currently available to human technology, as opposed to a Cybertron, that's been the setting for an eons-long civil war of a highly advanced species; for such an advanced species, the delicate nature of a helicopter's flight controls make it less reliable as a war machine. So, because I wanted to integrate his Targetmaster partners into his altmode, and because he was released in Siege and not Earthrise, I modded Spinister to be a Cybertronian gunship. Apologies ahead of time if I mess up pic posting; this would be my first post trying to do this. Mr. Spinister: --Removed his rotors. Filled the holes in his tail from removing the tail rotor. His tail popped off easily, but the main was a little more difficult. After cutting away some of the rotor mount, I managed to grind down the pin's head to slide the rotors off (in case i ever want to repurpose them later), then had to cut the entire mount off the main body. --Plugged the 5mm ports in his legs (normally they don't bother me but due to the nature of his transformation I didn't like that it was only on one side in alt mode. --Removed the landing gear. Maybe I will add a gun instead if I can find something that will mount there easily. --Added a T-connector and a pair of guns from shapeways under his tail (the T-connector is glued on). --Cut down the plastic reinforcement between his gatlings. Cut down some brads of similar diameter to his gatling barrels and glued them on the underside to fill out the hollowness. --Filled in the underside of his other stock gun barrels with putty to fill it out. --And of course, additional paint details. . His buddies Singe and Hairsplitter: --Some additional silver and black detailing to Singe. Also a little bit of red for the (negative space) detailing surrounding the "coils" under his pecs. Added a leftover titan master decepticon logo reprolabel. --Didn't think I could palette-match Hairsplitter's purple when adding paint detailing so I just repainted his purple in its entirety. Also some silver, black, and white detailing. Painted his eye-visor red. Will add another titan master decepticon logo if I can find another one in my pile. Together: Gunship: --Bought two other big rifles from shapeways, and sawed off the stocks so they looked less rifle-y, and made use of the pair of 5mm ports that were unusable due to his main rotor. This is really my first legit mod and I kinda dig it. Thanks for looking!
I have to admit that I also have always wondered why there would ever be a need for helicopters on Cybertron. You either fly or you don't!
I seriously can’t oppose that logic, and this custom does him some much needed justice. We need more customs with this much thought put into them. Great work mate!
Looks cool, you know what would look cool? If the tail would be modded to have wings like the dropship from Aliens.
