Old School Hand Made Upgrade Mod. SideSwipe has always been my favorite. As awesome as the entire cast is, to me, everything starts and ends with SideSwipe. Siege SideSwipe - Awesome representation - Finally a Cybertron Alt Mode = Awesome - To guys of my generation the Countach was untouchable… However, I kind of appreciate the front end looking more like the more modern Huracan - …But in my eyes, something was missing… Such a flamboyant warrior and amongst the fastest Autobots… Adding Aerodynamic Ground Effects would probably make this figure perfect Challenge accepted !!! I like scaled models. As an Electronics Engineer I can be called to perform “surgeries” on printed circuit boards. Working on scaled models helps keep my skills sharp, especially in my older days. Take all this together and you have: - Low cost platform for scaled project - Old School: No 3D Printing, just hand-cutting, carving, filing, sanding, gluing and non-toxic acrylic paint - Keep the Cybertron look, capitalize on Lamborghini nostalgia but blended with modern Huracan lines Go see my Fan Fiction Page for the origin behind SideSwipe Stealth Tech Aerodynamics Ground Effects Upgrade.
I Like the lights and shadows in Picture 3, notice the (Black Lines) diorama reflections on the roof an rear wing... Cool how non-toxic acrylic paint can get you to that blurred line between mat and gloss.
Hi Guys, Thanks for the comments, I made the front spoiler in such a way that it looks perfect from the side. And from the front, it's a cool compromise between a Huracan and leaving room enough for the "abdomen" part to flip out. So yes, SideSwipe can still transform but the wing is a one-off that breaks apart when he goes on mission, go see my Fan Fiction Page for more details. As requested, here's SideSwipe photographed from the front, WheelJack already prepped the wing with 4 SAMs for SideSwipe's next Black Ops mission. With his Stealth Upgrade, SideSwipe is now faster than ever, and can sneak up on a squad of Seekers and blow them out of the Cybertron Sky before they know what hit them. In my view the front spoiler makes SideSwipe's lines look better from every angle. As you can see from my diorama, I like working with foam. So the parts were hand cut in foam and trimmed until they were fitted. Then each part was re-cut in polystyrene. I then placed a 1/8" foam rectangle in from of SideSwipe's wheels to hold the spoiler in place while the glue cured solid. This gave me the desired result where the shapes are sharp and aggressive, but also as close to the tarmac as possible while still leaving enough clearance for the wheels to roll. This is why the mod looks so much like a real ground effects upgrade. I must humbly admit that SideSwipe now looks exactly like I envisioned him. If you look at the first 6 pictures I posted, this is exactly what my brain wanted to see when I saw SideSwipe in his Cyberton Alt mode. The initial design platform is so awesome, it's easy to get inspired by the quality and details, so I must give many thanks to Takara Tomy and Hasbro for the Siege Collection.
this looks really cool, but for the spoiler, why don't you make it two pieces where it can split in half.
The real Answer is that I like the car's looks both ways... So to prevent the "part forming" that people don't like, if i make the wing in two parts it will would need to be glued in place. Now I can just remove it. If you look at the SideSwipe upgrade kit that's now available, pretty much all the parts need to be removed for the transformation. The way I made the mod is like the perfect compromise for me.
Hi Guys, First, thank you for your time. I'm glad to see I'm not the only SideSwipe enthusiast. To me the main thing is the front spoiler... It makes SideSwipe look more like a high end sports car. Obviously the flared wheel well also helps. I did not like that hole in the side of the fender. If you like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, or any aerodynamic sports car, you'll appreciate the ground effect... But notice how he looks even sleeker without the wing. Reminiscent of the Countach that looked good either way. And the new Huracan that looks so aggressive with out the wing. Or the Porsche that always have a cleaner line when the wing is tucked in. P.S. Would you have guessed that the Missiles are actually Golf Tees that I carved and painted ? The Siege collection is made at an awesome scale.
As requested, the mod still allows SideSwipe to transform into this awesome rendition of his Bot mode. I added black and white paint to the the legs... Sideswipe is too much of a Masterful Warrior to come back from Battle with a scratch. As you can see you barely see the spoiler, and you're left with is that aggressive stance that seems to calmly whisper -"Just point me in the right direction, Prime." Awesome Dynamic postures It makes the Autobot forces look as fierce as ever. By the way, I'm new here, so one thing you should know about me, I'm all about Friends helping Friends. Life is hard enough, we should band together and help each other out as much as we can. So if you're like me and find that the only weakness regarding the Siege Collection is the weapons that come with your bot... Go to ToyHax, they sell more than decals now. Great selection, awesome quality, very low prices. SideSwipe will always look better with his original Flare Gun. Notice how it looks even better than the Master Piece.
