Heya all, and Happy Thanksgiving! Been awhile since I have been around.

So I have a question.... Does anybody know of a 3rd party Ironhide(preferably g1 style) in scale with Siege/Titans return? I am not a fan of the actual Siege figure(Ratchet is better than I expected after seeing it in person, and I bought him. Nice figure), I want him G1 style if at all possible. My current collection is made up of mostly Titans Return and Siege figures that are as close to scaling with each other as possible(I forgive Siege Omega Supreme and Jetfire, both for being amazing and obviously they couldn't be made to proper scale), and what MP scale figures that can scale out well with them(mainly Star Saber).

    Any assist would be appreciated.

It might be a tad on the big side, since it's about as tall as Siege Optimus, but you could try iGear's Weapon Specialist (or iGear Patrol Specialist, which is the same figure with a darker tint to the windows, fewer accessories, and an extra head based on Micromaster Tote).

Thanks for the reply. I have been eyeing him actually, though he may be bigger than my Optimus(I am using the PE Jinrai Prime for my Optimus). But he might be a last resort if I can't find anything else.

There's not much out there to fill that particular niche, unfortunately. The Earthrise Ironhide/Ratchet are so infuriatingly flawed, it really chafes.

I would say the iGear figures are too big. They were already almost too large next to Classics deluxes, and Earthrise figures tend to be smaller than that. Even though they're much smaller than the other MP Ironhide/Ratchet figures out there, I would say they feel like they were scaled to match MP cars more than deluxe-scale.

There's also Voodoo Robots Animus, but like iGear might be a little too big.

Honestly, the only option for that criteria currently (aside from being 3p) is the Earthrise Ironhide

Yeah, no options availabe for this. A good Ironhide and Ratchet figure is already a rarity in itself, but this particular scale especially. Official there are only the current Earthrise figures, the earlier CHUG deluxes that transform into a jggsaw puzzle car, and the Botcon releases (slightly smaller, less G1 accurate and expensive). On the 3rd party front I think there's absolutely nothing.

Hm, not sure I entirely agree with that. Sure, they're bigger than the classics deluxes, but the size difference is comparable as seen with the MP Ironhide/Ratchet vs the other MP cars -- better even, as it follows the scale chart more accurately. And that's fitting since iGear had planned these to be part of their not quite MP scale line. A downsized MP-1, the MP-3 KO's and planned downsized MP and the CHUG deluxe cars.

But the iGear specialists are absolutely too tall to work with Siege/Earthrise figures.

The Voodoo versions are even burlier than the MP versions, so they're definitely too large. The closest after iGear might be TFC's Ironhide/Ratchet, but they're still pretty large as well.

Yeah except (incoming hot take) the scale chart is WRONG. MP Ironhide and Ratchet are grotestquely oversized relative to the other Autobot cars. Have you ever seen a Nissan minivan? My friend used to own one... they are TINY. There's no sense to having Ratchet / Ironhide inflated to that size (really? almost the size of Grapple / Inferno?) when all they need is to be a head taller than a normal car-bot.

Sticking to the flawed size chart when not even the cartoon itself could be bothered to do so is an exercise in futility. It was one of the things that first started pushing me away from Takara's MP stuff. Also, anyone who disagrees with me is wrong. :lol

For sure. The iGear versions aren't just tall, but have an all-around big-ness that makes them an awkward fit with CHUG figures (Ironhide shouldn't look brawnier than Optimus, for example).

Of course you're correct that iGear intended them to match their downsized MP01 Faith Leader figure, and I would agree that Faith Leader is a better Prime size for CHUG than the actual Classics Prime.

There is unfortunately nothing available for Ironhinde/Ratchet that really lines up with the Earthrise scale... except the actual Earthrise versions (which have their own obvious flaws, of course).

Would you like Earthrise Ironhide with better feet?

and I believe I’ve seen other options out there that do similar. But I’m not entirely certain where.

Here’s another mod kit that turns the shield into a battle platform.

Yeah it’s crazy how little 3rd party options there are in the way of CHUG Ironhides. Especially considering how he is one of the main Autobots.

i am not married to G1 cartoon scale so I like my Ironhide to be just a bit shorter than Optimus. I would rather him be a voyager in line with the seekers.

And to complicate my niche even more I like Ratchet to be shorter.

Thats true. Got to be by design from Hasbro. I mean I can’t blame them it’s their IP after all.

Nevertheless there is still a couple like MMC and Planet-x. Although those only work for big guys like Megatron, Optimus, Tarm, etc. you can’t have a Ravage or Rung that is the same size s your Siege Hound.

Yea, MMC and a few others helped for a bit, but these days their scale is somewhere between chug proper and masterpiece.

True, I grabbed me a Planet-X Mars and immediately had to start swapping out figures on the shelf so it looked right. ER Optimus and Siege Magnus got rotated out for taller figures to look right with Planet-X Mars. The Decepticons were easier on the shelf, just rotated ER Megatron off and added MMC Tyranatron, which still looked good with ER seekers and Soundwave.

But to your point it’s true. The Planet-X IDW Grimlock looks amazing, but I am having a tough time thinking he will work with the lion share of my Siege cars.

I hate the parts-forming on Ironhide, but that battle platform upgrade almost saves this mold. I mean, it's still parts-forming, but using it to reference the G1 Ironhide design is a tiny bit more justified.

I'm similar. I'm not a slave to G1 toon accuracy, and I've always had a soft spot for the old Tech Specs ability scores. Ratchet is way weaker than Ironhide, and I'd kind of prefer if they didn't share an identical mold. Ratchet can be a bit smaller or leaner.

Or like, give them the same size alt-mode, but Ratchet's mode can also include a medical platform, while Ironhide can use the whole alt-mode and be bulkier.

On the other hand, Ironhide isn't that strong. He has the same strength score as Prowl, Sideswipe, Wheeljack, and Trailbreaker, so there's no reason for him to be close to Prime's size. He has special armour that makes him durable, but he's not a proper bruiser.

Personally, I always wanted to see an Ironhide with an armoured truck alt-mode. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Right? Basically the Masterpiece craze completely took over 90% of the 3rd Party market. Now that Siege/Earthrise is generally smaller, the rough CHUG scale that has been around for at least 15 years (longer if you include AEC) is pretty much an orphan.

Which is not to say the CHUG scale was consistent either... my approach was always "autobot car = deluxe" and everything else scales up or down from there.

:lol  I might take you up on Ratchet, just because I can't bring myself to buy a 2-pack with a teal Arcee repaint.

But sadly, even aside from the poor design on Earthrise Ironhide, the materials don't feel good either. Ironically, the only part of that figure that feels well-made is his shield/roof.

I dont have Ratchet. I only bought the Ironhide for $10 and the free Premium account. He rots in a box.

Ah! I had to buy the Prowl/Ironhide 2-pack... because I really wanted Prowl (was very annoyed to discover he doesn't come with shoulder launchers. Damn Hasbro cheapskates!). Now I've got this Ironhide, and I'm rather conflicted about it.

Ah very well said, and I agree on your points with one caveat. My primary focus is IDW Transformers, and in IDW, Ironhide is a big old bruiser :D . Fighting combiners, shrugging off shots, and even taming the temporally crazed Dinobots (off panel )

Except for that time when he was taken out of commission by a relatively mundane exploding building back in Devastation, and then scheduled to be crushed to death in a common car crusher. And then later in Costa's Ongoing Series, when he was LITERALLY ONE-SHOT KILLED by some humans. :lol

It's amazing how much screentime Ironhide got in IDW, but at the same time he was rarely depicted properly. Being nearly indestructible but also being a broke-down fuel-guzzling old geezer is pretty damn far from Superman-punching Devastator in the face (just one of the many moments that inspired me to drop Barbers' RID series). IDW's writers sure had a nerd hard-on for Ironhide for some reason.
