So a little backstory on this guy... i had siege megatron (believe it or not) and i wasn't a huge fan of him. It was mostly his colours and the lack of detail. I got reprolabels for him but he still wasn't doing it for me. But then i decided to get into painting transformers, and this was my first attempt at it. It didn't go well the first time, and I put him in a drawer to be forgotten. However I didn't forget, and after I touched up siege barricade I came back to see if I could make something of him. This is the result. I don't have any photos of him before my second attempt but I have these photos of him So this is my first full custom. I don't think he is very good. But he is alright. I probably went too hard on the "battle damage" At the very least he is what I expected out of my first custom. Do you guys have any advice for me? For now he will have to do as my chug megatron, at least until they announce an earth rise leader megatron.
This looks like 4 million years of war for sure Especially on the side of his lower leg I can't tell if the silver paint is weathering or the dark plastic shining through is it now but it doesn't look that bad in general. It actually looks more like I would imagine 4 million years of civil war on Cybertron. But I might go a little bit lighter on the dry-brushing Do you have alt mode pics to share?
Okay so i might have done some more to him... specifically a reddish brown wash. I figured I may as well take the time to experiment since I was bored and was looking for ways to make the paint look a little more natural. Unfortunately I don't have pictures for the second rendition's vehicle mode. I wasn't expecting people to actually want to see it, I did get a photo after the wash though so here you go. Thanks for the positive feedback the first time round! But did I ruin it with the wash?
It's a bit hard to tell with the quality of the picture. The best quality without using another camera you'll get by shooting pictures in bright daylight or neon light. What I can say so far is that it looks even more like several million years of war but the face looks a bit off by being that clean compared to the rest of the body. The figures paint style reminds me of AoE's Evasion Mode Optimus Prime.
Is this any better? I had some lights that I am about to install in my decepticon display. I had to hold the light over him to get this shot. The head does look a little out of place doesn't it? Any ideas on how to fix that? I gave it a little wash, but it doesn't show up that well. Maybe getting some blue paint and shading it with that would work?
It looks pretty good from this angle Even the face doesn't look that off anymore. Maybe drybrush it with a dark metal paint or mix a metal paint with black. Or just wash it more.
Okay so i added a little bit of silver on his helmet and washed it some more. I think it looks looks better than it did before. Might do some touch ups here and there, but i'd say he's looking good! Well not really, he looks pretty beat up... but appropriately so.
lol I know many may not be a fan of the 'ruined' look but I think you did a phenomenal job. I've seen these things sell on Ebay for decent prices. If I didn't know some of those markings aren't possible on plastic...I totally would have thought you buried it in the ground for a few months lol.
