Opted for Skylynx over Jetfire last year, no regrets either. Skylynx is a great figure. Curious what a redeco of him in say, Astrotrain colors would look like.
well, it's one of the worst molds they've made in recent years, so you're not super missing much. I'd track down the Universe version 100 times out of 100, it's better in every conceivable way aside from not having car-nose feet. (and those are a cheat on ER Sunstreaker anyways) but yeah, the number of times WJ got released was really strange... seemed like almost anyone needed a re-release more than him.
Was it one of the worst molds? I don't remember seeing any complaints about it at all other than the mismatch of yellow. From the looks of it Sunstreaker looks like a mediocre mold at worst. I would give one of the worst molds in recent history to Kingdom Tracks instead of Sunstreaker.
I thought er Sunstreaker was great, only thing wrong is the mismatched paint and that's got nothing to do with the mold
the missing spoiler, the "fake under hood" toes, the tiny size in robot mode, the ugly square block chest that lacks the window tapering. The janky leg transformation, supercharger sitting too high, the windows that refuse to lineup, the lack of any real accessories (eg. gun, fist rocket, shoulder rockets), his proportions are like a solid rectangle... ...he even has a fairly lame head sculpt, particularly for the WFC line which a few weird outliers aside (ER Megatron, K Cyclonus) all had exemplary heads. I only have it because I had to get Spinout/Cordon... I just find everything about the mold to be somewhere between bad and sub-par. (plus I find Universe Sunstreaker to be a top 5 if not top 3 deluxe in all of modern TF history) Tracks at least looks good in robot mode, but yeah, he might be the worst recent mainline mold... maybe core wheelie with his hands sticking out the back and stick-shoulders and completely unfinished alt mode?
I'm with you on Tracks and Wheelie, but Sunstreaker has minor issues in comparison. And the Universe version is far too big to look right in a WFC/Legacy lineup. But, I really can't overstate how terrible Wheelie is. I saw it in a Target a while back and I felt the urge to throw it in the nearest trash bin to save someone from having to be inflicted with its presence.
What? Really? Sunstreaker wasn't GREAT, but aside from the yellow mismatch and no real weapon it's fine
Honestly I doubt we'll ever see any characters from that era in haslab unless they're as large as Unicron needed to be. They're just too iconic to be confined to a kinda niche Kickstarter.
I honestly can't believe Hasbro put that thing out instead of just tweaking the basic Titan's Return design. but sorry, veering off topic. yay Jetfire! Omega Supreme plz???? he gets it!
We're starting to see Titans getting really neutered and watered down. I think Haslab would be a good opportunity to make a truly faithful and uncompromised Metroplex (G1) or Fort Max. Would I prefer retail? Yeah, but we'll all just end up spending an extra $50-$150 on upgrade kits to add in everything that was left out due to budget
I think the easiest way to get a better Fort Max would be to do a new mold from the ground up of Grand Maximus as a Legacy Titan. We never got the character here in the states. After that they could just do a selects Fort Max of the same new mold with show accurate colors or something.
It means that your suggestion makes terrible sense business wise. Releasing an obscure repaint character to retail while making the well know original character an online exclusive is, unwise.
