Not keen on it, it just looks incomplete. :(

I'd imagine, since there are no plans to produce the car (last I heard anyways), that this probably does have something to do with Sideswipe in TF3. Remember the rumor about Bee going convertible for TF3? Maybe they decided to turn Sideswipe into a convertible instead.

I have to agree with Omnius, it does look incomplete. It's probably just the angle, but the front windshield doesn't look big enough to really do anything. Still an overall cool looking concept car, but definitely better before becoming a convertible.

I do see one possible benefit from this alteration to his alt-mode. Might mean the toy versions of him will have less back-kibble. Though at the same time they'd have to actually mimic the interior....which would probably just complicate things....

Not too keen..car does indeed look a bit incomplete without the roof. But if this is Sideswipe's new alt mode, I'll live. :)

I was guessing that since Sidearm Sideswipe is a new mold, it would be modified slightly for next summer, but based on what i can figure out about how the toy TFs, i'm not sure how tidy a convertible it would make.

I also doubt they'd release two new Sideswipe molds between August and next July.
Could be wrong of course..... but im inclined to think Sidewipe will still have a conventional roof next time.

Seems perhaps like the modified concept is more about them figuring out what to put in the next production 'Vette(?)

Actually I just had a thought - this means the toys will have less back kibble! :D

absolutely. If you think of it in terms of Pixar Cars, it almost looks decapitated.

    Ok a few things here.

One: That is one SEXY automobile; :thumb  I approve of this being Sideswipe's new alt mode.

Two: How can they film this car for the movie and make it look like it's driving around without a driver. Being a convertible means the driver would be obvious to spot, which leads me to number three.

Three: How can you make a convertible TOY and make it look good? The only convertible I am aware of is Universe Hound. I know it's not a convertible in the car sense, but it has no roof. It's actually half-decent too. Also, there might've been an Alternators convertible that I can't think of right now, as I type this.

We'll just have to wait and see how this plays out, if it's even Sideswipe.

A Holo-driver or a remote control system are the only two ways i can see this glorious looking vehicle working as Sideswipe and/or Sunstreaker....

I am gonna say something along the lines of what I said on the rumor of Bumblebee being a convertible. There are cars out there that CAN pull off the look. But, very few do. A lot of them look odd, wrong, out of place, whatever you wanna call it. This is one of those cases. I don't like the way it looks as a convertible. I really don't. That car was meant to be a hardtop, and that is what looked best.

Wow that's pretty horrific looking. The body panels don't even match up. Look at the door! It looks like it's going to fall off. And the area behind the seats where the top would fold from is a complete mess

Proportions are all messed up as well, and it destroys the original impetus for the concept car....the split window 1963 vette. Yeah....it doesn't have a rear window to split....

I really hope they don't change Sideswipe to that. I agree with everyone saying it looks incomplete. Because it does.

That was my immediate reaction. I thought the same when they were discussing Bumblebee going convertible, except instead of less back kibble, sleeker arms.

Well, on the bright side, if this is true, it may help solve one of the bigger issues with the Human Alliance figure and alleviate some of the backpack issues.
