Maybe it's too late for all this, but I figure most Transfans are pretty annoyed by Alternator Optimus Prime. We all knew that it was supposed to be Ironhide but got changed for fear that Japanese consumers would not buy a pick-up truck unless it had the Convoy name. However, most of us also feel that the 20th anniversary Prime is pretty much the Alt version of Prime.
So here's my thought: We boycott Alt Prime.
I know that some people are looking forward to it, some are planning to customize it to Ironhide and many of us are just completists. But come on! We want Ironhide! We don't want this to be Prime! Let's just go for it.
Maybe it will have no effect, but if we all do it, it may send a message that we want our Alternators taken seriously and with proper attention to the characters.

 

It would never work, and besides all we have to wait for is someone to mold an Ironhide head for it

I love Optimus Prime. He's my childhood hero. I have a hard time not buying it if it says "Prime" on it. I am not buying Alt. Prime. It defiles 20th Anniversary Prime's place. I would've bought a Black Convoy though...

 

Like everyone else said... it's a toy and it's OPTIMUS PRIME too... I'm buying it.

excuse me, I sure as hell dont agree with this random assumption of yours. this thing was designed to be prime. the design that was produced was never going to be ironhide or anyone else. he's got prime's leg details, and the triangles on his arms just like prime, not to mention the head. its optimus prime, whether you like it or not. I love him, I'm getting him, and I'm pretty sure most people bitching about this whole thing will end up caving and getting him too.

Though, I would think boycotting would be a rather extreme measure...since it wouldn't solve anything, if any, at all.

 

I'm undecided about getting Alt Prime. I may wait and see what character they repaint the Dodge Ram as first. If I like the repaint, I'll go for that. If not, I'll hunt down OP.

 

I wish it was painted black with a diffrent head (Trailbreaker). But like I said before...... I am becoming such a completist... Hasbro could release a tin can with an Autobot symboll on it and call it Optimus Prime and I would buy it!  

 

20th Anniversary Prime is a tough act to follow, but Alerternator Prime still looks like it has the same basic level of quality as most Alternators have. Sure, maybe not the best, but far from awful.

 

Actually, he was. According to a number of Hasbro reps I've talked to, he was planned to be Ironhide at the design stage. It was due to the whole trucks don't sell in Japan thing that Takara insisted it be a Prime. (And that last part came from the mouth of Arron Archer at the last Botcon at the panel.)

Does this mean the end for TF's in Japan? The End of Binaltech? Alternators? No, we already know that there will be at least 3 more new cars (and at least a repaint of 5) so we're good on Alts. As far as Takomy, I thinks they're just restructuring. It happens when companies merge. Give them a quarter or two and let's see if they pick the line back up.
