Hear me out, they won every time in the bayverse. They won in most shows. Why not have them lose once in awhile in the Knightverse?

I'd be on board with this idea, otherwise it'll just be the same old trope that MCU is banking on for no reason already.

I agree to a point-if done correctly. Also, how about the Decepticons retreating sometimes to regroup and re-strategize instead of getting knocked off all the time?

Yes. This is far from a radical idea.

Techically they lost the war and Cybertron in the beginning of Bumblebee. Which is why they left.
For the next Transformers film from what we heard throughout Bumblebee, Optimus Prime plans to regroup with the Autobots and retake Cybertron perhaps the story will end with the Autobots failing to do that.
A War for Cybertron prequel would also show the Autobots losing.
A modern setting is little more difficult as you don't want something too catastrophic. Maybe ending the movie at something like Autobot City in TF: The Movie or Battle of Chicago in Dotm.
Or the Decepticons get the energon, but that would be another macguffin story.

I like the idea of the good guys losing. It builds tension. That's basically my one gripe around prime. They never lost anyone beside maybe Cliffjumper. They constantly wiped out literally entire squads of troopers without any damage. How can you enjoy something when you basically know what's gonna happen at the end

They lost in AOE. Galvatron escaped, and the humans they were betrayed by yet still fought for simply tightened their anti-Transformer sentiments after the events of Hong Kong.

question is would Megatron be as hammy as the Beast wars one and say something like "Say goodbye to the universe, Maximals! The future has changed, yessssss. The Autobots lose! Evil triumphs! And you...YOU NO LONGER EXIST!"

I don't know if they even need to lose so much as just not win in an overwhelming victory. Bumblebee's victory in his solo film felt earned because of how badly he got his ass kicked and only won by being crafty verses just kicking their asses. I don't have a problem with that, but when every Autobot is mowing down 'Cons and hardly getting scratched it's just not rewarding.

This is one of the many reasons I liked Animated so much. When the Decepticons showed up they usually came away with a net gain rather than a loss.

I think it depends on what you mean by "lose". At the beginning of AOE and TLK the Autobots had lost against the humans, and had to make a comeback. There have been losses in the series. I doubt we'll ever see a Transformers movie end with the Autobots losing (unless it's part of a two-part movie). To an extent there's a certain structure you have to follow for this type of story, and having the good guys win in the end is pretty much a requirement (unless you want it to be a more adult story, which probably won't happen in Transformers).

Or it took the Autobots the better half of an episode to beat them, typically by denying them of whatever they were after.

That was an off-screen loss, however, and I don't think anybody's happy when the humans beat the Transformers.

Yet whenever an Autobot takes on a Decepticon one-on-one, the Decepticon is the one left in pieces with the sole exception of Jazz.

Or the better half of a multi-part episode. Which only says more.

I actually think tlk should have been in 3 parts and have the decepticons win in one of them then have the autobots win in the finale part

I agree, that would have been really cool. TLK definitely had enough material for two or three movies.

I always feel like even if the big bad guy plot is stopped. Megatron should always have another plan ala David Xanatos.

A Xanatos-esque Megatron would be amazing.

i'd like it but it's one of those cases to where it's rather unlikely as studios like paramount don't like to "challenge" an audience, unless a big name director shows up or its a 2 part story we probably won't see a main series film that dares to end on bad guys wining
