Should I feel ashamed for unironically liking the old "Armada" toys for what they were?

This should answer your question, my friend. NEVER feel ashamed of liking the Armada toys. They were freaking epic. What I always liked was that whenever you bought one of the figures, you always got two, technically. I just grabbed this big greenie over the weekend and I'm using him as my Shattered Glass Unicron.

No. Armada was great and the sales showed it. It was a rousing success and that indicates fun and quality

Never be ashamed of what Transformers you like. Armada is the line that got me back into Transformers, even though I didn't care for 90% of the line. The 10% I did is awesome and are still central to my collection.

Props for rotating the leg kibble. Stock transformation with the flat piece facing forward has always looked awful to me.

Thanks dude, I really appreciate that. In my collection, I only have two Unicrons. This guy and the 3rd Party one that came out. At some point in time I'd love to get the original Armada and Energon versions, but without having to break the bank.

Hell no. I wish I had Tidal Wave, Optimus, Jetfire, Overload, numerous Mini-Cons, and the missing horns and Mini-Con for the Galvatron I got in a loose figure lot a few years ago.

Nevermind being the first iteration of the franchise to give us a Unicron.

not at all! Demolishor is a fav of mine, as is Hoist, there are some spectacular Minicons, and most importantly they’re really fun toys to play with

Like what you like. There's a reason why Armada was one of the biggest Transformers success stories and it wasn't because of people thinking they were cool putting the boot into it.

If people are making you feel ashamed, they're just the thing that's wrong about the fandom - gatekeeping and 'my views are the most important, you can't have such a good experience as me because you don't like the right stuff'... ugh.

I - perhaps criminally - have almost no Armada stuff on diaplay, but I do have the WHOLE LINE in storage in the loft. There are some hugely satisfying toys in there, a real sea change from RID/Car Robots, and it bought us Unicron for the first time which was quite frankly amazing. I'm personally quite glad to see some of the non-G1 lines being leaned on for current and upcoming releases as there was some really cool stuff in there.

I think there is only one line where TF fans maybe should feel a bit of shame…and I think we all know what that is.

    Animated ?

There is other ways to play with your toys than putting them in the super hero landing pose.

You can make a list of Transformers with opening hands and wrists that allow that, I suspect the list wouldn't be super long though.

The Fosilliser TRex's & the Spinosaurus could do it though.

I can't tell you how much I played with my Armada toys as a kid. I particularly loved turning Megs and Demolishor into bases for Minicons.

Hell, Armada Starscream is still the only TF toy that wasn't from Beast Wars that I straight up wore out.

Nope nothing to ashamed of at all. I am an unashamed fan of the Armada Sideswipe toy and if that makes me a heretic so be it ;)

Seriously though as someone who started in G1 I liked Armada quite a bit. I don't expect poseability out of transformers. Overall the transformations were cool, the minicons were awesome, and the loads of features were a ton of fun.

Sideswipe is still a fav of mine. Seriously.

Despite many being bricks, Armada toys are just fun. It's a gimmick-fueled line where the gimmicks are largely enjoyable to activate. Megs/Galvatron are wonderful and still put that Generations Leader retool to shame. Even Side Swipe's fun. I love seeing modern updates of Armada and hope we get more, but there's a definite tradeoff of gaining modern posability but losing the fun of the minicon fueld gimmicks.

There were some great figures in Armada. Armada Starscream was the first non G1 figure I bought when I got back into collecting.

I prefer it to the Legacy figure. I do wish you could turn the original's head but otherwise, I love that mold. I still have Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp and Ramjet.

A few years ago, I downsized my collection and I did get rid of most of my Armada figures. I definitely regret parting with Megatron, Hoist and Tidal Wave.

Armada might as well have been G1 2.0 for how many bricks there were. The only reason so many people didn't like the line was because we were just coming off RID and it's liberal use of ball joints, so it felt even more like a downgrade. If you think of Armada as a line of G1 engineering but with modern sculpting and micromaster compatibility then your not gonna have betrayed expectations. Megazords were in the same boat as anything from Armada for decades, but nobody complained (loudly) about that because they never tried to be anything but imposing statues with shoulder rotation at the very least. Of course, the Zap Megazord and Soul of Chogokin Daizyuzin are another story, but they didn't really raise the bar like RID and Beast Wars did for Transformers since they were high-end collectibles.
