They don't have to use the newer molds except through choice. I'm hoping they continue to use older toys they have not yet used at Botcon before, some molds they have already used and perhaps one or two token newer molds. If you're going to pay Botcon costs, you may as well get a decent sized toy for what you pay for.
Whatever works for the theme. If they do a Transformers: Prime set (maybe a proper Cylas Breakdown, FE Nemesis Prime, Tailgate, new characters, etc.), they should stick with the Prime molds, obviously, which are smaller, by and large, but they'd have to match the retail toys. Ditto WFC/FOC... or larger, if they're going for a Classics aesthetic. It just depends.
i think the prime line is better in every respect compared to the older ones. they're a little smaller, but who cares.
It doesn't matter, it's just going to be more horrible Shattered Glass bullshit that .01% of the fandom actually cares about.
That's fine by me when ~1% of the fandom actually gets to make it to Botcon and get these figures. I'm not among them, as you could probably tell.
The size difference isn't THAT significant, so I don't see your point. That and with Botcon exclusives, you really aren't paying for the size of them, but for the EXCLUSIVITY of them.
I can see it. With rising costs and smaller/downsized figures, there is something to be said for shelling out a lot of money for a downsized figure. If you look at stores now, the price of a delxe is about $5 less that a Voyager? I was at TRU yesterday, and Prime Voyagers were $20, while deluxe were $17? How crazy is that? The GDO scouts are $9.99? Remember when Scouts were about $6? Also, the the exclusive-ness of the figures also drives high pricing. Limited runs, low quantities, also factor into the botcon sets. I don't see Botcon sets going down in price, unless they start cutting down figures. They also have more exclusives available, a box set, a loose set, two 2-packs, a 3-pack troop builder, and a freebie. If the price is too high, then those who can't afford (like me) either pick and choose which exclusives to get, or simply pass on the whole lot altogether.
I'd rather see FunPub stick with Classics, Animated, Movieverse (what molds they can touch) or WfC/FoC (including the more recent stuff, if it's accessible to them already) before getting into Prime. That has more to do with my personal preference that they delve into those areas further (or at all, in the case of Movieverse and WfC/FoC) than start into Prime already since it's already ongoing and we have no idea what else is coming out beyond what's already been announced for Beast Hunters.
