was just wondering-why didnt Shockwave, head of intelligence, just simply look up a schematic of a spacebridge? y use the damaged one from the ship and a botnapped Autobot to build it when he could have just looked it up himself

Because Shockwave didn't know about the space bridge until Megatron could communicate with him by using that communicator from the Elite Guard. But that doesn't explain much either. More or less it's because we need a plot. Try not to think too hard into continuity errors, but I blame it on the Unicron Singularity from Cybertron like the comics said.

Because no one would dare to tell Megatron he wasted time working on his space bridge.

Because Sumdac was an idiot, and Shockwave wanted to please Megatron by giving him the best spacebridge technician around. Mostly because of time, I would think. The Decepticon Forces can't stay in the outer rim for long without getting their asses kicked, so that thing needed to be completed quickly.

Shockwave may have been an intelligence 'bot, but he's still just a "Prime". Perhaps some things are kept under wraps, considering the Decepticons just started another uprising.

Because he was in intelligence and I doubt the ins and outs of space bridge worky bits are of much importance to them.

i guess it depends on your definition of "intelligence" i always thougth of him as kinda like an archive guy, and figured that he would be able to get easy access to one

Intelligence, in a military meaning, means spying and communications. Not intelligence as in "smartness". Shockwave (and Blurr) are spies. Think of Cybertron Intel as MI6 or the CIA.

If Shockwave was the head of, say, Cybertron Engineering, or maybe the prime of some kinda tech university, then we'd be talking.

Considering how important the space bridges are, I would assume that information on them is closely monitored. If he sent Megatron the schematics, there might have been a chance he would be caught.

Agreed with the others above. Shockwave has been doing this along time and he didnt get this far by being stupid. Espionage is all about careful thought out moves. Whats really interesting is that to get promoted I'm sure shock had to bust a bunch of d-cons at one point or another. I wonder who he picked as his sacrificial lambs

I think it's a matter of specialities. As one of the other posters mentioned, "Intelligence" doesn't mean that a bot is wikked smart in all aspects of Disciplines on Cybertron, it just means that he's keen to the Spy-game, espionage, counter-terrorism, and what-not... but he may know f%ck all about how to interpret spacebridge schematics... But he knows that Bulkhead is Cybertron's leading Specialist in that area.

An analogy - if a person were shown a schematic of an Advanced Algorithm, it's likely that they wouldn't understand what they were looking at... unless they were trained in advanced mathematics, or if they had someone there with that sort of knowledge there to explain it to them.

Even if he had found the schematics, None of Megatron's cronies could build this thing... Sumdac would be bound to bungle some things due to his limited knowledge. The Constructicons might be able to interpret, but that would take away from the story trying to Develop Bulkhead as a character who is more than just a lumbering Lug.

Because of this, i don't see Shockwave's Blunder as a blunder at all. Just an example of a bot knowing what he doesn't know, but knowing where he can find someone who does know... which is pretty smart in it's own way.

And also, it gives us noteable character development, which is always welcome in a TF cartoon (AEC trilogy, i smite thee)

    Love you guys!

i guess you guys are right-it just kinda came to me the other day-still though, im surprised he wouldnt be able to get away with it, claim he nedded to see the schematics for a classified reason or sumthin
