Hey... no way! I have one of those guns! I was gonna cut it up to make parts for a custom Megatron! Well, they say great minds think alike... zmog
It's the gun from Robocop. In the movie it was called the Auto-9, though in real it's actually a modified Beretta M93R. The one I'm using for this I picked up at a Dollar Store. As you can imagine, the plastic that makes up this gun is very crappy. I've never made a custom toy before though, so I thought it'd make for a good learning experience, plus if I like how it comes out I can make a more refined one with better parts. The cheap airsoft versions of the Auto-9 are probably a hell of a lot better than the one I'm using to make this one. haha yeah, Megatron crossed my mind, but since mine's only gonna have one hand, Shockwave made more sense. I thought about doing a custom head and making it a whole new character, but just completing this thing is hard enough as is.
Very cool, can't wait to see the final product. I too know how hard it is to scratchbuild your own figure, I'm attempting an Autobot (new character) who turns into the BTTF DeLorean. Good luck with this Shockwave, and stick with it.
Yeah, a total scratchbuild is still beyond me! I'm actually just using parts of the gun to build up Megatron's body details on a pre-existing transformer. He doesn't actually turn into the gun, but I thought it would be nice if some of body had some "gun-like" shapes on it for old-time's sake. zmog
Quick question...now for the bottom part are you gonna cut like the bottom half of the hand on the gun to make to legs? or is it gonna stay together as one whole handle when in robot form?
Yeah I found the same one. For $1, I couldn't go wrong. Rarely do I make customs outside of the Alternators realm, let alone the TF realm. This was just too cool to pass up though. I just went to Wal*mart and got a can of black Krylon and went to town. I'm quite the Robocop fan as well. [*note: this room looks a little different now, if anyone's interested This photo is nearly a year old. My old CRT monitor is present in this photo, for instance. Hopefully I'll have some new photos in the near future]
It'll be cut up, I'm just finishing the upper half before tackling the legs. The legs should end up transforming similar to a g1 Megatron's
o ok thanks for the clear up.. but yea thats gonna be an awesome and inexpensive kitbash =) win win situation haha
Semi-update: Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to do much of anything with this lately as school work really piled up these last two weeks, but I have been testing out different possible colors for the exterior. After three different spray paints, I think Krylon Black Satin looks best. It's not too flat and it's not too glossy, and seems to adhere very well. However, I've noticed that the glossier paints seem to really accentuate imperfections in the plastics texture, so this is going to have to get a good, even sanding before any type of clearcoat goes down. I'll put a pic up of how the gun looks with it's (unsanded) paint once I find batteries for my digi cam
I feel ya with school man! I hope all goes well for ya! Krylon Fusion Black Satin is what I used for my Robocop Auto-9 custom. I am really satisfied with how mine turned out. Keep workin' (when you can!)!!!
