That was my biggest concern honestly. In the N52 they made the character a dick and I was hoping that wouldn't make it's way into the film.
I never understood the NU52 thought process behind making Billy Batson into a delinquent criminal in the first place. I hated that version. He was a piece of crap character that nobody could root for.
The thought process was probably that as a homeless orphen, it would make sense for him to be jaded and rude and prone to violence as defence mechanisms. The cheerful orphen trope is probably as dead as disco outside of Little Orphen Annie. I mean it was still a shitty character derailment that I hated but I get why they chose that road.
Eh, I liked the New 52 version. My favorite version is the Golden Age Fawcett era. Then maybe Jeff Smith's gn. Then maybe Ordway's graphic novel (not so much the ongoing series that followed). But since we're never going to have the Golden Age take, allowed to exist in his own separate universe again, I think I might enjoy the New 52 version more than the constant butt of every joke post-Crisis goofball version. And for the record, Annie could get pretty dark in her original comic strip. I think the constantly-cheerful image maybe comes more from the 1980s Carol Burnett movie.
