Shattered Glass MP GRIMLOCK; finially got around to taking the photos.. Grimlock was made by using a TAkara Grimlock; I have given Grimlock a Shattered Glass color scheme. Nothing to much too it.. thank you everyone for stopping by and viewing
It's weird, I hate shattered glass as a concept, but I love seeing bots in the colors of their opposing equivalents (Starscream in Jetfire colors, Junkions as Insecticons, etc). This is definitely a great idea executed well. I'd love to see even more purple, though! Did you consider giving him an "all-over" darker paint job to better match Trypticon's darker grey? edit: After looking at your photos again, you totally did give him a darker grey paint job. The dark background and lighting fooled me at first. I'd love to see some shots against a white background!
Wow, VERY clean colors and love the overall look, nice job with the color-combo! And the robot-mode is even more stunning! Love it!!!
I thought he defected to the Cons? or am I thinking of a different verse? Either way that is some fantastic work. Had me drooling before I realized it.
SG Sideswipe's BotCon toy was a redeco of Armada Wheeljack, presumably 'cause he randomly has a really Sideswipe-y head scuplt. That mould, however, has the big crossed out Autobot insignia on it, so they made SG Sideswipe's backstory that he defected to the heroic 'Cons. So opposite-universe Sideswipe is a good guy. You have to wonder what that says about about regular Sideswipe...
"Yeah, awesome!" "Flawless" "Whoa, cool!" You're not getting that from me. First, let's start with the good. The paint application is beautiful. It looks like you slowed your pace down and really took that amount of care you're known for and made this one of the cleanest pieces you've done. It's slick. I love the idea, and the execution. The photography is especially excellent, and many could take note of how to present a custom. I don't even bother looking at customs with cheesy back drops, out of focus photos, and obvious phone camera shots. You should know I appreciate your efforts. It's unfortunate because this piece is severely flawed, and for a very simple reason. The color palette. As you can see G2 sideswipe is executed well. A nice palette that melds well together and falls within the "Split-Complementary color scheme." I'm not going to bore you with the details and if you want to know more, here is good resource. http://www.tigercolor.com/color-lab/color-theory/color-theory-intro.htm#triadic The point is this grimlock paint scheme is all over the place and reminds me of looking at a fruitcake - after I've thrown it up. (especially in robot mode) It's down right ugly, and could be simply avoided by taking a look at the color wheel, and planning accordingly. We're getting deep here, I know, but follow on. This is how Takara designed the most memorable characters of the franchise, and it's the first place they turn with the majority of their character designs. Optimus Prime is essentially a giant McDonalds logo mixed with the Exxon logo. He's such a strong character for a lot of reasons, but the main reason is his color scheme. Next is shape language, and finally his proportions. I love your customs, but it drives me nuts when people make such simple mistakes and it ruins their effort. They don't call me the Radicon Scourge for nothin'
So many pretentious words, so little communicated. FLAC must sound like nails down a blackboard too. If you don't like the color scheme, blame your precious Takara, in spite of the fact Hasbro has as much to do with color palette as anyone (the Dinobots' red crotches, yellow Sunstreaker, red Sideswipe, silver Bluestreak, red/white/blue Ultra Magnus came from Has, not Tak), because it's Trypticon's coloring. That is the nature of Shattered Glass, where Optimus Prime is purple and black, not red and blue. If you hate it, then hate it. But while you might limit yourself to determining attractiveness or appeal by a mathematical formula, other people go with their gut, their instincts and their emotional response. So as someone in that latter camp, all that blah you posted means absolutely nothing, except an attempt to position yourself as having some kind of superior awareness, providing an education to us all on the "correct" way to make or enjoy art, when it's just your singular opinion and not the least bit definitive. I like it. It invokes G1 Trypticon, G1 Grimlock and the official Shattered Glass Grimlock toy. Regardless of what your squiggly lollipops say.
Another Phenomenal custom by Xaviercal... The neon green on the legs is Fierce!!! Toxitron in that would be killer!
Sorry dude. These pieces of work are up here for artistic critique. I don't earn my salary in the creative field because "my gut" says something looks good, and since you didn't take the time to read the link and educate yourself before blurting out your ill thought reply here's my response: More "squiggly lollipops" Shattered Glass Grimlock - oops right again A more thought out and balanced custom based on the same character.
