So, I've been looking about some convention toys. Just for fun to see what cool figures there have been. I see the Shattered Glass ones, and I think to myself. That is a major money maker. I bet if those were in stores they could sell. But mainly to collectors. Cause I don't think most kids would accept evil autobots and good decpeticons. Cause to some, it just doesn't seem right. But what do you guys think?

Many people hate the idea of Shattered Glass, but I personally like it. Of course, there are also many others out there up who like it too.

I would LOVE for there to be a retail toyline of Shattered Glass! This could mean potential repaint ideas (SG Hound, SG Dirge, etc.) and regular Botcon releases (SG Optimus Prime, SG Starscream, etc.). But I'm sure collectors would get mad at the former, seeing as how they bought the same box set a few years back for $200 or something.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking re-releases of the boxsets. Just all new molds, or at least repaints.

    Ok.

So how many of the characters didn't get toys? I'm assuming SG Ironhide, SG Ratchet, SG Cliffjumper, SG Hound, SG Omega Doom, SG Skylynx, SG Warpath, all of the Cassetticons, SG Dirge, SG Reflector. Any others?

There are certain known SG characters, but hasbro could make an SG version of any character really. Cause it's the entire transformers universe, just flipped basically.

So the repaint possibilities are endless? That's neat!

It's an interesting concept. However, I'd rather see a completely different cast. You know like a new set of Autobots who are actually dicks and Decepticons who you would think would make good Autobots but they're Decepticons out of Necessity.

Yes more shattered glass. And definitely would love them at retail.

I just don't think Shattered Glass is as good or popular enough to pull sales. I for one avoid SG like the plague. Aside from some very clearly homages to older toys like SG Thundercracker, the concept just doesn't interest me at all.

Shattered Glass was a great one off convention boxset idea, but since it's been revisited as nauseum and having other toys shoehorned into it, it outlived it's welcome FAST. I have a few SG pieces in my collection but I can't say I'd be excited about retail SG toys.

I always preferred reverse counterparts to NOT be just pallet swaps of each other. More like how Owlman is to Batman: similar, but distinct. A retool instead of just a repaint.

I doubt there'd be a mass retail release of Shattered Glass, though, that seems to be squarely BotCon's own thing. Not to mention the fun of Shattered Glass is everyone's the opposite of what you expect them to be, and all to often toyline bios are little more than "so-and-so is so powerful even Megatron is scared of him!"
Although it would be pretty fun if a cartoon visits it's own SG universe, and we got toys of that.

Hmmm, if evil BATman is OWLman, then evil Optimus Prime would be.... Pessimist Crime?

It was going to happen in Animated Season 4. And it would have been epic. :cry

I've actually always found a lot of the SG figures to be more interesting than their normal counterparts, like Drift. So, yeah, I'd probably buy a few.

I agree with both of these points.

Shattered Glass started as a cool one-off, but it has quickly become that annoying thing that refuses to go away and is constantly taking up valuable exclusive spots, I was very unhappy when after the excellent 2011, 2012 went back and revisited it. Although I admit SG Drift was an interesting development; a TF gimmick that's outlived its welcome copying a comic character that's outlived his welcome.

I think the people who hate Shattered Glass did not see the issue with Cliffjumper in it. That comic was amazing! I loved the evil Optimus Prime. He is amazing beyond reason. Plus the looks of the transformers just fit so well. I think Hot rod looks amazing in those colors as well as Cyclonus and the Constructicons. People just be hatin' lol

I guess I never realized there were so many people that don't like SG. You wouldnt know it by the crowd that was at Botcon 2012. Not only are the toys great. But they always have a good storyline as well. Not boring media like most Issues I receive from Funpub.

They wouldn't. Shattered Glass generally appeals to a small, wealthy percentage of G1 fans who probably collect them mainly for being premium products. Take the value away from Shattered Glass, and you're left with a group of uninspired repaints and a sub-par fanwank comic you can only read through an expensive club.

I was at Botcon 2012 and didn't get that impression at all.

Know what toys are even better? The original decos.

Almost anything's better than the boring fluff the club publishes.
