I very much enjoyed Kill la Kill and the little witch academia OVAs. Gridman, especially episode 2 shows me they love old Brave shows and the visual direction from Masami Obari. I'm confident there's enough love in Gridman for Gridman and super robot shows that this will be a great ride.

    Maybe they're courting Takara?
Lord knows a popular new anime is exactly what they could use.
I wouldn't mind a TF anime from the people who did Kill La Kill.
And I hope they make it as out of wack and epic as KLK too.

That's all just fanboying over a name. It's easier to say "Trigger" than "the ex-Gainax Gurren Lagann staff".

Nobody's forgetting that Gainax exists/existed, but if they haven't been relevant for the last several years, then of course they'll fade from the public eye when the discussion moves towards new/upcoming shows.

With a lot of that talent having left Gainax, people will continue to look towards their successor, Trigger, for the offbeat/stylized productions.

Should we get more 3P Shattered Glass toys as a result of this?

JJ01 repaint of upscaled Classic Prime, Shattered Glass Galaxy Meteor.

Shattered Glass repaint of Striker Manus.

As someone who loved the hell out of Kill la Kill I must say that the idea of Trigger doing a transformers gets me crazy excited. Make it happen Hasbro. ;)

I hope they don't repeat SG's mistake by making too many campy references and making the show all about the bad guys without giving the good guys much personality apart from the one-dimensional "rock on" guy.

I don't understand any of this. But, then again, a large portion of anime makes 0 sense to me.

I'm only saying this as someone with a casual interest in production, but I think you'll find that Gainax was like any other long running show. It had a few big standout experiences in its run, a lot of average and quite a bit of bad. When people think Gainax, they're largely thinking Gurren Lagann, Gunbuster and Evangelion (putting aside my own opinion on two of those, when people shout the name of Gainax from on high, it's usually these shows that are the reason). Like those are the BIG two that permeated anime fandom as a whole. You go into the slightly deeper end of the pool you've got maybe shows like Nadia, Mahoromatic or Appleseed. A lot of the rest of their production less well known or less well liked. Honestly most of it is not remarkable. Because really few if any studio has more than a 5-10% pure excellence of production. I'm even including Ghibli in that. In 30 years, Gainax made dozens of shows and I'd say 5 or 10 were something either remarkable or remarkable in their uptake by viewers. Studio Trigger started with a HUGE hit in Kill La Kill a few of years ago and garnered attention, but then like any other company a lot of their poduction hits an average point with stand outs. Sometimes those stand outs are niche (Witch Academia) or end up being hurt by production issues (Trigger pulling out of Darling in the Franxx sadly tanked the ending). And then a lot of their production is middling to good to bad. But they've had 5 years. Like Gainax early in their career they had a hit that defined the kind of output people would expect from them at their top game. Like Gainax, if they have 5 big huge hits and a bunch/some cult favourites in a 30 year run they'll have done well.

And all this is without bringing in subjective opinions, like mine that Gurren Lagann while good has a lot of structural and plot errors, or that Evangelion is a very pretty mess, or that Kill La Kill is one of the top shows of the decade.Or that so far, Gridman is looking to be an enjoyable but standard toku show that can do some crazier things cause it's in animation

Animation companies are frequently defined by the exceptions not the rule.

The list of the girls that “disappeared” in ep2.
    From above

Tonkawa Sakiru : Tonka and Cy-kill.

Toida Hikaru(or Hikari) aka Toiko : Toyco (original maker of G1Shockwave toy).

Kenaemura Rika aka Kena-chan : Kenner (Beast Wars).

Doi Hako : Toybox (original maker of G1 Omega Supreme toy).

Takara Nana aka Seven : Seven (Japanese toy company that produced cheap toy version of G1 characters).

TF reference aside, I think it’s a great anime with action, suspense, and a little comedy.

It doesn't serve to hail anything as the second coming imo.
I notice many people are talking like that about studio Trigger in here.
I've seen Kill La Kill and I really liked it even though I can see it has many flaws.
What I liked was when the anime was completely absurd and creative (which like most fiction it wasn't all the time, plenty of cheap fanservice stuff).
But you could notice that even though there were attempts to draw people in with easy pleasing, there was also a lot of dedication, which is to be expected if it was their first product.

If they can make a TF anime with that dedication and creative absurdity and ditch the easy pleasing that'd be great, but I don't expect miracles from anyone.
    Just my two cents.

Yeah, it’s such a one-note Star Trek rip off, it’s just not something I’d have ever seen living on past the one BotCon theme. (And the inverted color emblems always bugged me)

[these design references are SUPER clever though)

    I'm in shock.
    It's surreal.

Would this not be actually front-page newsworthy?

    It is on Seibertron.

I now have to watch this, even if it doesn't have a cover of the Syber Squad theme.

I was going to watch this show anyway because I love pretty much anything connected to Ultraman, but seeing all these references and finding out that Trigger are huge TF fans is just icing on the cake. It'd be nice if Hasbro let them do a TF anime someday.
