Finally got to see their Thunder Gridman/Phormo. I do like that the guard on Samurai Calibur form the crest on the chest.

    Combiner Wars!!!
Oh man! Someone please give Anti a hug! That guy is having such a rotten time.
Seems like it's worse than I thought if Akane is to believed. I guess everyone in the city was created by her.
But it also seems they are trying to overcome their "programming" and live their lives in a way their God didn't dictate thanks to Gridman's influence.
Rikka pretty much told Akane to go fuck herself after that conceited talk by openly supporting her friends in their war against her and to enjoy herself at the festival, even knowing how depressed Akane must have been feeling after her defeat.
I still think they should have dragged Akane's but out of her shitty apartment and showed her the time of her life at the festival though.
But they might not know where she lives.
And Alexis is looking more sinister and creepy with every episode.
What did she mean by that "guests" remark?

    IIRC, Thunder Gridman was "Synchro".

Hell yeah! My favorite part is where Thunder Gridman is basically just walking forward taking all of kaiju's shit. Well....that and the Might Gaine sword finisher.

The bus scene this episode had me feeling chills. Excellent direction and the music placement was spot on.

Yeah. She was just trying to reach out to her and then she's being told that she was programmed to behave that way.

    God!

I originally thought you meant that awesomely animated scene where the kaiju kicks that same bus in the air.

This might have been my least favorite episode so far, and thats a shame because it should have been the most important. The pacing, as well as the tone felt all over the place. Both Rikka as well as Thunder Gridman’s reveals lackluster. Rikka’s origins should have been the biggest bombshell yet, and while the bus scene itself had chills, it was immedietly cut short as Rikka exited and never brought up again till the end of the episode. I can understand if that was partially the point, Rikka can’t have a proper reaction because she can’t hate Akane, but the suspense just immedietly fell through the roof.

Thunder Gridman’s reveal was awesome, him showing up early and trampling around the school certainely had an ambience to it, and Shiro Sagisu’s music was as beautiful as ever..... until it was literally interupted mid-song and replace with the opening theme. We’ve listened to that during a battle like, what... 3 times now? And I bet you we’ll have to listen to it again.

So again, both of the two most important scenes in the show just felt lackluster, dropped on their face, and the mood immedietly killed.

To be fair, the original Gridman show did play the op song a lot and so does a lot of super robot shows in general. I'm sure the staff is honoring that same concept. The pacing and tone felt like the rest of the show to me, but that's just me.

I've had mine sitting around as a dragon with a drill for a head often enough to recognize that drill when I see it. XD

I ordered both GSC and Megahouse version. I might just get a few more Megahouse Gridman so I can display the other three modes separately, but the only problem is that I'll end up with 4 Samurai Calibur.

If you’re not familiar with Figma, they’re an incredibly nice line of multi poseable figures from Japan that come with extra heads or faceplates, accessories, hands etc. They do get a little pricey on some but some properties get domestic releases at places like Target or Best Buy. 0894BF70-DD33-4B6F-9F6E-6B14F0350235.jpeg

Disagree about the lackluster Rikka reaction (and I don't know what's up with the chills, that was some insipid mood-coloring going on in that scene. If anything the scene itself was lackluster).
The whole point of Rikka's reaction and the episode is that Akane's world is giving her the boot.
She tries to demotivate Rikka by telling her that she is her creation and cannot behave in any other way than as her friend, because that's the way she was created, and a few minutes later Rikka is actively cooperating towards Akane's downfall.
At the end of the story she is partying without a care in the world for Akane's well-being.
That is a very powerful statement.
And in the beginning of the story there are similar statements.
The teacher they saved who never used to care about his job, is now taking an active interest in the students.
The kids who were always so listless petitioned and got their festival back.
The laws Akane laid down are being shattered.
People are behaving contrary to their programming thanks to the changes wrought by Team Gridman :p
This was my favorite episode so far, next to the big reveal episode with the girl-kaiju.

9E434B49-6504-40AF-8D49-A26E02A6C96C.png That sword Borr whipped out in episode 8 is just STRAIGHT UP Age of Extinction Dinobot Scorn’s, isn't it? Appropriate, considering the character’s design cues.

Now we can have human SG Prime ride Titan Class Trypticon.

I would be surprised if it wasn't.
