Seems like a click bait article title. Unless I missed something, Chapek didn't say the film was an experiment for having an Asian cast, it is an experiment on how they are releasing it. It gets a 45 day theatrical window before going on Disney+. As opposed to Black Widow that was theatrical and Disney+ on the same day.

 

Right now there are rumors that certain groups in Disney don't like how Chapek is running the company. So we will be seeing a lot of articles like these as they try to oust him or get him in trouble with the investors. It's basically a power fight. Feigie did similar maneuvers when he was trying to fight with Pearlmutter for control of the Marvel movies.

 

If Chapek is a fuckup, then it's the Disney boards that approve his promotion to ceo.

 

Chapek isn't a big fan of these 5 to 10 year contracts with studio heads, he wants a smaller amount so if they screw up or make several under performing movies he can fire them. That isn't making people like Kathleen Kennedy and Ken Feigie happy. He'd also like more of a focus on what sells and less of the other stuff we've been getting. He's very business focused.

Chapek certainly had an interesting choice of words even though he was referring to the release strategy. With things getting worse again, I’m sad to say that I won’t be going to the theater.

Of course, the more superpowered action will come later, but still I think this fight holds up good enough.
