Seriously guys, what is with the laziness on this guy? Every SG Galv custom i see has an unmodded head. Come on? I see Punk putting in so much work on the chest, and others modding everything they could about the figure, but no one bothers with the head? [/sarcasm] Well I did. Screamingjet commissioned this for his SG Galv, and luckily we both agree that Galv just isn't Galv without his iconic head design. The Evac head just isn't good enough. Here's v1 of our solution. And Screamingjet's ordering v1.1 soon (which is available on my Shapeways Shop). Why? Because v1.1 fixes the size issues. Yes, we know it's a bit small right now. We know. I've resized it in v1.1. As soon as Screamingjet gets his, i'll see if he can get some pics. With v1.1, it'll fit in alt. mode, you just need to turn the head 180 degrees (so he's looking backwards) to get it to fit. Buy v1.1 here: SG Galv Head by Treadshot A1 on Shapeways Each order does get you two heads, the standard head and the more panel-accurate head (left and right, respectively). The standard head is wider to make maximum use of the space, while the panel-accurate one is thinner to try and make it slightly more evil looking.
Just got these pictures in from Screamingjet. It may be slightly too small (this is v1, not the upscaled v1.1), but painted up, wow that FUD really pops! It's really clear in the second shot just how good FUD is for light piping. EDIT:
I was thinking the same thing, SG Galvy shouldn't look evil, he is a good guy after all, well I suppose he can look crabby or something of that nature.
Looks kinda... derpy. Why not use the actual Evac head since it is what SG Galvatron's head is based off.
Given that Shapeways has a $25 minimum order, it might just be easier to buy a real SG Galvatron. Last time I looked, they were only $50 on eBay.
This was the image Screamingjet requested i go off of. I like to think i got quite close to the art, facial expressions included. Also just got the side picture in from Screamingjet. Great to see the detail on the side horns came out perfectly.
Personally, I think it looks great! I was planning to point out that image when I had a chance to post, but you beat me to it. lol It looks very close to the artwork shown above and if there's something to be learned from this, the client is always right! If he's happy with was done, that's what counts. As for the "derpy" comment......I have to disagree. The head looks much more like an actual Galvatron head than the Evac head ever did. Trust me, I've worked on two of these suckers, doing G1 styled Galvatrons from them (one nearly complete, the other in early WIP stages). The Evac head actually looks a bit too "old" to be Galvatron. The head shown in the artwork doesn't really look like the Evac head and it's just too "old bot" in my opinion. He almost has a Kup-like face.....old and worn from battle. As for my Galvatron head/chest work, those are for a G1-styled Galvatron from this same mold. No plans to really do SG Galvatron. But thank you for the kind words, my friend! Keep up the great work on your Shapeways parts/bots!
Well then....I get the idea then...but man....make a diff. version that has a happy face or a grin or something....He just looks like he spilled his ice cream or something.
You are only looking at the mouth. Try looking at the face as a whole and you'll see a grim determination. At least that's what I see. Not exactly- Have you checked ebay recently? The CHEAPEST one (at the time of this post) being $100.01 AUS (inc shipping): double your estimate , the most expensive being $213.36. It is, believe it or not, its actually kind of expensive getting a Botcon fig to Australia. Ahh the joys of dealing with the "Fair and equitable" secondary market Also, I did not wish to burden myself with that retina searing package mate, SG Thundercracker. Ew. Just..EW. And lastly, had the designers actually bothered doing something about the head in the first place for this use of the mold, I MIGHT have been prepared to part with that kind of cash. As they didn't, I consider it a far better investment to use my own efforts in creating something that "I" will at least enjoy looking at. Thankyou. I really appreciate it and I'm sure Treadshot does as well . Given your own experience with the mold you can appreciate some areas are tricky to work with. I look forward to seeing how that all turns out, as well as being able to show this guy off when he's completed. And before anyone asks, yes there was a horrific shoulder injury. What was a small crack I thought I'd repaired crumbled when I tried reinserting the hinge pin. New parts are on their way, this has meant however I can't proceed on anything else until I get the new heads or the replacement parts.
I think the actual problem is that his mouth is too thick,it kinda look like it's open.I believe you wanted to make him like "):<" but with that damn mouth he looks like he's all like "D:" ,which is rather lulz worthy.
