For those that are curious, whenever I make articulation I use http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/creat...n/379431-industrial-strength-ball-joints.html. You'll see customizers complaining that they're too tight, but if you put petroleum jelly or any other lubricant in the socket, it makes it very buttery. I use Aves Fixit Sculpt to mount everything and occasionally Gorilla Glue.
The thread title had me curious- was this gonna be a fanfic-y version of Starscream with boobs or something? I think it's because I just read the "Decepticons are Hookers" thread. But, damn, that Starscream's awesome.
I could cut it all off and just have the legs make up his tail section, but I think robots need some random kibble. Might hinge it down since it sticks out a lot. Was going to name him "Fangirls!-Give-me-your-money-Starscream". No boobs, but I think this is the Starscream the fangirls like best.
Wow! What a blast from the past. I remember back in the day, people were customizing these Armada Starscreams because nobody could imagine that Hasbro was ever going to make better Seeker molds. Nice job here... it really goes to show just how elegant the Armada designs can be with a bit of an engineering upgrade. I love how this is turning out with the ball joints. Trust me, he's added a lot. Shoulders, hips, wings, neck, at least. What's more, that mold is a MONSTER to disassemble. Glue and rivets everywhere. It's a nightmare. Yup, those were the old TFmaster versions. I went over that tutorial many times, but never followed it through (stupid rivets). I think it's probably easier now with ball joints like these ones, but I've since sold all but one of my Armada Seekers... My favourite part of that sculpt... the sly smirk on Starscream's face. zmog
The Armada Skywarp tutorial was one of the few we weren't able to resource when we were archiving all we could of Transtopia back in the heyday of Radicons. I also would like to see a "new" tutorial of this, if for no other reason than for nostalgia
I am going purely from memory here as it has been a long time since I had this figure but I believe the articulation point count was 12 Shoulders: rotate out(so he could flash someone if he wanted too lol) Elbows: up & down Hands: Due to transformation Hips: up & down Thighs: rotate Knee: normal
That's right. No neck movement at all, no up and down or in and out shoulder motion, and no in and out hip motion. His limbs had no lateral(?) motion at all.
you certainly made the best of this mold, he is pretty bulky for starscream (hes got and eating disorder in Prime)
Excellent work! Armada Starscream is my most favorite mold. He's the reason I got into toy collecting. Now I love this mold even more. My Armada Starscream had its hip modified by my friend, it can swivel to the side using TFU 2.0 Dirge's hips/thigh parts, but I think your balljoint method is better. I will buy another Armada Starscream mold and have it customized using your balljoint method. Thanks for sharing this!
Upgraded his proportions, made him a little smaller. I was inspired by how sleek Dreadwing's jet mode is and minimized his kibble. Null rays are coming soon and obligatory gerwalk mode is go.
He looks fantastic, and it kinda makes me wish that I didn't pass him up back when Armada was around. Great work though, can't wait to see him finished up.
Lookin' good! I almost forget about this mold sometimes, and how nice it can be with a bit of extra work. I have one left... really should get back to it one of these days. This is fantastic stuff. He looks so much better slimmed down like that. zmog
Ok u made me decide not 2 sell TC / SW / SS... Will b doing this 2 all of them 2 thnx 4 inspiration!!
Honestly, I'm the kind of person that skims instructions and just starts trying things out. I'm not into making anything step by step. http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/creat...n/379431-industrial-strength-ball-joints.html Basically, I just cut him into the proportions I wanted and installed the 1/8 size into his shoulders, hips, and then the 1/16ths into his neck, wings, and wrists using apoxie sculpt. Feel free to make a tutorial, but you'd probably have to make one first. I have no problem ripping apart toys with needlenose pliers even if I screwed up the plastic in places.
Awesome work, here. I remember when I modded mine back in the day to have forearm-mounted missile launchers (by modded, I mean, "drilled a hole in the side of them to fit on the pegs).
