As you read by the title alone, yes, Sentinel Prime is my favorite character. And before you smash your keyboards saying that he killed Ironhide, and betrayed the Autobots and that he deserved to die, let me explain why I love Sentinel Prime so much. And why he is my only favorite character in the entirety of the Bayverse. One of the reasons I love Sentinel is that he does have sympathetic goals and has motivations for why he does the stuff he does. He wanted to restore his home planet and joined the Decepticons if it meant he would restore his home planet and would sacrifice the planets of lesser beings if it meant that Cybertron would live. If I was in Sentinel's shoes and my home planet was dying and there were no other options rather then join up with the enemy and kill another planet if it meant the survival of my home planet, then I would sympathize with him and understand why he is doing it. Because Sentinel believed that what he was doing was right, yes it was the wrong actions, but he did it because he believed that what he was doing was the right thing. Another reason why I love him so much is that he is a total badass. He has a cool ass design which makes him stand out from the rest of the characters in the Bayverse and his lines perfectly performed by Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy (may he rest in peace) And his weapons such as the cosmic rust cannon and the double edge sword were all amazing. He could overpower his opponent and can take out Optimus Prime singlehandedly. And people may hate him for killing Ironhide which is the only reason why they hate him, which makes me question why tho? Why do you care so much about Ironhide, a character with so little screentime and so little character? I don't wanna sound insulting or anything, but there is no reason for you to care about Ironhide, yes, he had personality and some semblance of a character. But he got so little screentime to the point where he is not even an interesting character, he is just this tough as nails character who is a weapons specialist. What I am saying here is that Ironhide is a boring character. People say that he got what he deserved, but no, getting brutally executed when you are begging for mercy even when you're wounded and incapable of fighting is not justified. I feel sorrier for Sentinel then any character in the Bayverse. People say that what Optimus did was justified when it was not, killing an incapacitated soldier who has no way to defend himself is not justified, it is technically a war crime. And no, killing Sentinel did not avenge Ironhide's death. Like Optimus Prime always said "revenge is not gonna bring back the ones we've lost," So it means that even if he killed Sentinel, it did not justify Ironhide's death. Also, Sentinel was still Optimus' mentor, Optimus could at least give Sentinel a fair trial. Also, you may say that if Optimus let Sentinel live, Sentinel would come back and inflict more harm. And to that, I say "How?" there is no way for Sentinel to go. All of the Decepticons are dead, and Sentinel has nowhere to go. You could maybe have Sentinel be exiled from Earth or maybe be put inside of a prison that is designed to keep the Decepticons locked up. But that is all I have to say about Sentinel, what did you like about him? Please tell me.
Sentinel Prime has clear goals, motivations and pathos. We know what he wants, why, and we understand how he thinks. That puts him head and shoulders above most of the characters in the films. He’s a great foil for Optimus. also his chest and tummy make a skull
I've been saying this for years. Sentinel is my fav character of the movies. The last great hero of cybertron. The only one willing to cast aside the war to rebuild their home. Dotm sentinel is amongst my favourite characters of the whole franchise (series as well as movies). I even repainted tr sentinel into his dotm colourscheme and gave him a scourge head. I disagree he was begging for mercy. He was pleading for Optimus not to doom their planet. That was why he told Optimus no at his execution. Optimus was begging for mercy before. Sentinel was begging for cybertron.
Sentinel was an amazing anti-hero/villain, but nothing he does IMO can be justified. Saving Cybertron? He just wants to go back to an era when he lorded over little Cybertronians over a golden throne. He may've been wise and willing to sacrifice even his spark to save Cybertron once, but all that's left of him is a genocidal, borderline psychotic maniac who deserved to die. Gorgeous, majestic design too. Just wish he had more vehicle kibble like Optimus. Can you post a pic, please? I'd love to see it
I think that Sentinel killing Ironhide only shows how intelligent Sentinel is, he knew that Ironhide was a powerful enemy to have and eliminated him as soon as possible.
Why not just stall and wait until he can kill Optimus, then, if he only gets one shot to kill a strong enemy before everyone's guard is up? It's absolutely one of the most emotional and shocking points of DOTM but not really a smart move on Sentinel's part. If I were him I would have come up with some BS reason for why I need to take the pillars quietly instead of getting chased out of there with guns by every human and Autobot present.
Yeah, but IIRC he kills Ironhide before trying to persuade Optimus. Not a very good thing to do before trying to get someone to like you. Ideally he'd talk to Optimus BEFORE doing any shit, and then kill him if he refuses, leaving the Autobots without a leader.
Maybe. He's a very Shakespearean character, maybe it didn't occur to him that Optimus wouldn't see eye to eye with him.
