That whole sequence beforehand I think helped make the revelation that much more shocking. At least Bay gave Ironhide one last major showcase before biting it.
I agree, I was so happy when I found Sentinel Prime 3 days before the orignal DOTM toyline release. But after I read then book and even after the movie I was so disappointed in him. Here I thought I had this great Autobot leader and all I got was a traitor. I suppose me and the rest of the Autobots felt the same way. Other than that he was a really good traitor!
Sentinel is probably the biggest turncoat in TF history and it was a shocking, refreshing and cool plot point... Autobots are always made out to be unwavering.... Sentinel towed the line. That's what made him awesome. I do wish some of his screen time could have been given to Starscream, Shockwave and Soundwave ( he could have taught them to use the pillars).
