So with my huge anticipation of TF4, I am thinking about sending some fan mail to Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor and Mark Wahlberg and hopefully I'll get an autograph from them in return. I think if I would get something back, Peltz and Reynor would probably be quicker because they're not well known yet. Never done fan mail before. Anyone have success stories? Update: 6.28.13 - Sent them out. Time for the waiting game. Update: 10.12.13- Received a signed photo from Jack Reynor with a note! 2 more to go.
I got an autographed photo of Harrison Ford back in the early 80's. Its a photo from Temple of Doom. Of course I sent the letter as a fan of Han Solo over Indy but that was his next movie so that is what got sent. Still got it.
I once got a letter from Rob Liefeld when I was 13 in response to an X Force fanart I sent him. Said that I should be legally barred from being anywhere near a pencil.
There's one that means the world to me. I sent an e-mail to Janet Varney, AKA the voice of Korra, who also does an absolutely amazing podcast on the Nerdist network, among other things. Shortly after I did, I found myself in the hospital for emergency surgery. The next day, the new episode of her pod came out, and she dedicated the episode to me. That really helped during a tough time, and I guarantee you she has a fan for life.
General rule is the person will never see it. At best their publicist or manager will get it and send a photo back, maybe a generic letter they have for this kind of stuff. The smaller the celebrity the more likely they might actually get your letter.
I prefer to get autographs at Conventions where I can see the stars as they sign my paper. I've been to several Star Trek conventions and got autographs that way.
I wish you the best of luck! While on the subject of Autographs, I was at a live show for my favorite audio drama and, among people you may not know, I got Townsend Colmen's and Jess Harnell's.
Yea I've met numerous athletes at autograph sessions and sporting events which is way better than just sending a letter, but the way I see it, there is a super slim chance that I will ever be able to meet these people.
I also get all my autographs in person. Claudia Wells, Julie Benz, Peter Cullen, Mark Ryan, Lou Ferrigno, John Schneider, David Hasselhoff, Burt Ward...off the top of my head. It makes for a much cooler and memorable experience.
Personally I've never sent any fanmail, but I'm reminded of this story someone wrote in after Marlon Brando's death: From Roger Ebert's Answer Man column: Brando letter makes the grade | Movie Answer Man | Roger Ebert Pretty cool
Yup...u know what's weird. I met a Elisha cuthbert few years ago on MySpace. I asked for an autograph and she ended up sending me a publicity printed autograph photo from this one website that makes them. To this day I wonder who the wierdo was or if it was her somehow lol
I think it's just a better and cooler experience when you met your fav celebrities in person as you get there autograph. At my local comic con this year i met voice actor Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric in Fullmetal Alchemist) and it was one the best moment ever because we chatted a bit and now with the autograph i got i had it framed and i put it on my nightstand so i can always remember that moment in time. I know it's a cool story bro story but for me it was awesome.
I wrote a nerdy pseudo love letter to Jeri Ryan when I was little haha, but that's about it. Don't think she ever read it, but if she had, I bet it made her laugh.
LOL right? I was devastated back then. Then when I learned how to draw better, I realized how much of a hack Liefeld really was. How he got jobs at Marvel and Image is baffling. Wish I kept that letter instead of ripping it up. I woulda framed it as a testament to how much of a douche he is.
