Badcube's Captain Huffy got me thinking about alternate transport truck transformations.

Are there any third party transformers where the back end of the truck featuring the wheels become the arms? (e.g. Imagine if Optimus Prime's back-end transformed into arms instead of his usual legs).

And if there are no such transformations like that, why not?

I don't have anything to offer, but I always wanted to see a Classics-style Motormaster done that way. Front half of the cab became the lower legs, thighs along the wind vane, rear half of the cab houses the torso, rear wheels are the arms. Trailer's purely Menasor bits.

There's precedent; A bunch of fire truck Transformers do that. But of course the difference between a fire truck and a semi trailer truck is that there's a lot more stuff on the back of a fire truck to work with. Especially if you go for a more realistic truck, where the back and bed of the truck are practically skeletonised, I don't know if you could hide stuff there. But if you're fine with a stylized MP-10 or Onslaught truck where the bed is boxy and can hide a lot of robot parts, it shouldn't be a problem.

I just remembered: This is more of a side note than anything, but Don Figueroa originally designed Nova Prime to work that way. Unfortunately all the toys of him so far haven't worked like that; The closest we came was a project that died a few years back.

That’s what immediately came to mind for me. I always thought that was a brilliant transformation and a really fun toy. One of the few molds I bought two of (counting the black repaint).

Armada Optimus Prime does that... sorta. Rear->Arms is used for the Super Mode transformation. Otherwise, it's the legs as per usual.

Not really semi-trucks, but that's the typical transformation arrangement for Hook and Mixmaster. Even Revenge of the Fallen Mixmaster has his rear wheels on his arms.

I still wish somebody'd make an Optimus out of that. It's a really clever transformation that results in a totally kibble-free bot mode and a super clean alt!

Ah seeing those prototype pics brings back memories of the hype-train many of us were on at the time and the disappointment we felt when news that the company had died a quiet death hit.

very few in terms of mainline, but among them, the one that looks the best is cybertron armorhide, and any other repaints of that mold.

Probably because the designs died with the company. I believe there was a handful of completed prototypes but they went to the original designers and company owners if memory serves me.

    Such a shame....

cybertron armorhide TF movie armorhide 2007 timelines huffer.jpg

    3 trucks.jpg

    chest.jpg

Thanks for everybody’s help. Here’s a pic I found of Cybertron Armorhide, TF movie Armorhide 2007, and something called Timeline’s Huffer.

An interesting design. I think I would have used the bottom of the truck as a robot chest with robot details instead of having a truck cab hang off the front of him.

    Looks like a neat toy.
