    Seems to me the Tetrajets were modeled after the German 1944 Lippisch DM1 aircraft.
    Pic beneath is a scale model, but the aircraft did exist.

    Probably a coincidence. Deltoid flyers are kinda common in older scifi art. It's known the shape is aerodynamically sound and it looks both realistic and exotic. G1 space designs are strongly influenced by retro scifi.
