Alright, I am a newbie to collecting reissues. I was able to get a Blaster from HTS, and now I am looking at various G1 reissues. I searched the forums but couldn't find a thread that explained the various Soundwave reissues, but I am wondering if there is a big difference between the SDCC and the TRU Commemorative issue with Laserbeak and Ravage. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
here's my take. tru soundwave used soundblaster's mold, which can fit 2 cassette tapes in his tape deck, and it includes laserbeak and ravage as his minions. sdcc soundwave on the other hand can only fit 1 cassette tape in his tape deck. he has 2 additional cassettes, besides laserbeak and ravage, it also comes with buzzsaw and ratbat. if you can find sdcc soundwave for a good price, i'd say go for that version as you get ratbat. hope this helps!
Basically what bb77 said. The TRU version used the Soundblaster Mold, while I think the SDCC uses a mold that was reverse Engineered from the G1 Soundwave. But don't take that as truth. I could be mistaken about the latter.
These 3 are all the same mold TFC Soundwave SDCC Soundwave Encore Soundwave These two are the same mold. TFC Soundblaster TRU Soundwave From what I understand they are all based off of the TFC Soundwave which was based off of the original G1 Soundblaster. I also think the reverse engineered the head from a G1 Soundwave.
I'm new to this as well and actually prefer the SDCC for Soundwave. I actually picked up both and didn't like the double tape door. The SDCC is closer to the original G1 Version. You can find good deals for the SDCC Soundwave in the Junkion forum here. Plus you get sweet Ratbat with the SDCC version!
I always wondered this about the reissues.... I have a couple of original Soundwaves but they kinda lean forward a bit when I pose them standing. Do the reissues do the same thing? Or is just that my Soundwaves are worn out?
i'm looking for a misb sdcc soundwave but they're not as easy to find as i thought. a few stores have him but i'd like to pay less than $90, that's a bit steep i think. most are sold out.
If you're looking for G1 accuracy, but wanna save a little bit of money I'd go with the Encore version. I'm pretty sure if you troll the Junkieon he can still be had for a decent price; no double tape deck, and I don't really care for the purple door on the SDCC version. Just my opinion though
It sounds like your soundwave is just old and worn out. My old G1 Soundwave did that after many years of battling Autobots but its been replaced with reissue Soundblaster. Which is my favorite version of Soundwave and you should look into that version if you like Black/Red colored Transformers
Gah! Don't tell me that. I wonder if I could just swap out the parts from a reissue. And don't talk to me about Soundblaster.... My ass will buy it and I'm not even looking to buy one right now. I've always wanted to buy one but have managed to stay away... Don't tempt me..
Thanks for the info guys, looks like I will be hunting down a SDCC Soundwave! Prices on this bad boy are kinda steep right now, but hopefully I can get a bargain somewhere. Thanks again!
I may be in the minority but I prefer the TRU Reissue with the double tape deck for display with my G1 collection. Yeah not G1 accurate, but since most of my G1 collection is a lot of re-issues it doesn't bother me. I also have the SDCC Soundwave from last year but that one is one of the rare occasions I keep something MISB because I really like the way it all looks and can't fathom opening it ever even if Soundwave and his minions are suffocating in there.
Which of these is supposed to fit in with the CHUG figures? I'm more interested in the mold that will be a bit more modern looking, and not as chunky as his G1 representation.
I believe that one is the TRU Re-issue which the only noticeable difference is the double tape deck. So it is just as "chunky" as G1 Soundwave was.
You will probably want to get the Music Label Soundwave for that. IMO that's the best looking and updated for CHUG. It's not chunky at all and very streamlined, yet still looks very G1.
I agree with this. If you are looking for a Classics style Soundwave, get the music label Spark Blue version. The only drawback is that he does no hold cassettes in his chest like the original, but he is a really nice looking figure. The only G1 Soundwave I have is the TFC version and it is really good, but he only comes with Laserbeak.
