I quite like my second-hand Generations Drift, but the soft rubber plastic katana is incredibly floppy, bents easily, and it just sucks as an accessory. So, I just went and scratch-build a katana for my Drift with some pla plates. The new Katana by itself after been painted, before been top-coated: The shaping and painting on the new katana is done, and now the only thing to do is to wait for the top-coat to fully cure. Not sure if the new katana would fit properly into Drift's hands and the storage sheath on Drift's back after the top-coat is dry (since the painting and top-coat could possibly causes alteration of the tolerance). In the worst way possible, I might need to further sand down the sword to allow better tolerance after painting and top-coating. The original floppy rubbery plastic katana:
Thanks. So it turns out, the new katana for my Generations Drift has a bit of a tolerance issue after the top-coat is fully dry. Drift can hold the new katana in his fists n robot mode, but in vehicle mode the katana was a bit too thick to fit comfortably at the underside sheath, causing some of the paint to chipped off after I pulled it out. So, the new katana shall go back to my worktable, and went through another round of sanding, trimming and painting to allow better fitment when stored in vehicle mode after it was finished. It kinda sucks for something like to happen, but it's not the end of the world.
Never looked into Gundam swords? 1/144 makes some and kotobukiya make them. I have swords for my Azelea and my MakeToys Prime. The sword style you have would be in either the HG GBF accessories or Kotobukiya. There's a buster sword among the set weapons I believe.
I do take a look at some Katanas from Kotobukiya and Bandai already. I originally wanted to just egt myself one of those and just fine with it, but decided to went scratch-build one myself since I will like for the new katana to still been able to stored properly in the existing sword sheath storage from the stock Generations Drift (And none of Kotobukiya's or Bandai's swords are shaped right to allow storage in both bot and vehicle mode). Thanks for the suggestion, however. Speaking of storage in vehicle mode, the new katana went through further trimming, painting and top-coating once again. I test to see if the katana can actually fit properly in vehicle mode. Despite the fit been a teeny bit tight, the new katana does fit snugly and there's no paint chipping off anymore.
Presenting...... Drift's new katana; Now he doesn't need to use the lame floppy robbery plastic "katana" that he originally came with anymore. Generations Drift here is quite an awesome figure for its age with unique aesthetic choices, some good joints for some sweet posing, and an intuitive transformation, with its only down-point being the lame floppy soft rubbery plastic "katana". I attempted to remedy that by scratch-build a new katana for this fella, and it sorta works to make this figure even better. Some poses with the new katana:
