Three days ago my fellow collector from Belgrade bought a boxed, complete G1 Optimus Prime off of a local auction website.

The toy had all the trappings of an IGA Optimus (red blotches for eyes, red on die-cast chest not matching red plastic, etc.). What made him take a closer look at what he bought was when he opened the trailer and spotted lighter blue plastic parts inside, while the roller was dark blue.

So off he went to browse the internet and find out what he had. That is also the time when he spotted a curious thing on the packaging. A logo. This one:

That is a logo of Yugoslavian "Marčanka" company that made toys, like this die cast car for instance (notice the logo on the bottom).

What we have here folks is an apparently IGA Optimus Prime, repackaged into a custom made package probably made by and then distributed by "Marčanka" for a yugoslavian market.

I personally still own an original G1 Optimus Prime bought here way back in '90-'91, but I do not own the packaging. Still I distinctly remember the spanish writing and my OP missing the tech spec portion of his character card. My OP comes with dark blue plastic parts in the trailer though.

We are still trying to confirm this find as there are more G1 OP's floating around here, so we will keep this updated.

    Cheers,
    Razorclaw

Before Hasbro dealt directly with the Yugoslavian market this Marčanka company probably licensed the toys from Hasbro and brought them into the market themselves, a bit like MB did in the beginning days of Transformers in the UK.

Sweet. I love the history and discovery of stuff like this from the G1 era.

I like the light blue trailer parts - that would look got if partnered with a silver Roller.

    Le bump.

    Anyone? Bueller? @Maz? ;)

There is another Optimus in Marcanka package on sale right now, wonder what I should do (considering I already own an IGA one from my childhood).

    WOW.

Maz wrote an article earlier about reboxed TF's for the italian market i believe...maybe this was the same way....came over in the USA packaging and then was swapped out for the YUGOSLAVIAN packaging...

    very cool find either way,

bet that is a very rare variant for collectors anyway.

    Oh that is fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Without a doubt an Iga Mexican Optimus Prime, and not just a regular one but the safety tested ones from post 1988/1989 with the lead paint removed and red paint replacing yellow on the eyes and on the die cast portion of the cab.

The packaging is clearly based on the Iga template with those Marcanka logos, man that is terrific, just when you think there is literally nothing else to find.

Thanks so much for sharing, I'd love to include this in an article sometime soon.

Do you think I'd be ok to use those images or be provided with new ones?

Also, any clues as to whether or not other similar era Iga Mexican TFs made it out in this type of packaging? Stuff like Astrotrain, Grapple, Inferno, Jumpstarters, Blitzwing, Devastator, individual Constructicons etc?

    All the best
    Maz

And only Optimus Prime was in this type of packaging [1988/89],other Iga figures hit the Yugoslavian market 1 or 2 years later in Iga official boxes 1990/1991
