As much as I like Safari, I still prefer FireFox, even on my Mac.

The way they're distributing this is pretty underhanded. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lawsuit.

    Seconded?
What's wrong with the distribution tactics?

Apple is installing it on any computer with itunes, disguised as an update.

I've had it pop up twice so far and have said no each time. You have to read the message very carefully because as RandomFerret said, it shows up in the exact same window as iTunes and QuikTime updates do.

there was a article somewhere (think it was Yahoo News) about some Firefox big head dissing Apple about it saying its borderline malware on how its being distributed.

I ran my iTunes update thing, it looked for updates and came back with Safari. It was in a box listing avalible updates with a check box next to it. You have to click install before it dose and you can uncheck it if you don't want it.

Exactly. It's not being forced on anyone. And much as I dislike Apple...it's not their fault people tend to not read things before pressing OK.

tried it, not bad...i like it better than IE still...but FF still owns.

the only thing i dont like about itunes is that it needs Quicktime, and when it updates, it makes it start on start-up, so i then have to edit msconfig everytime to make it not.

It doesn't seem too different than the way anyone else distributes anything these days. I probably would have seen the check box, but I stopped updating Itunes a long time ago. It seemed that every time I plugged my Ipod in there was a new version of Itunes and I just got sick of updating it -I never saw a benefit from any of the new releases.

AOL used to be one of the worst offenders here.
I remember I would get done installing Real Player (among other things) and I would have "Free AOL Trial" on my desktop, IE toolbar, Favorites, and Start Menu -and it never gave me a choice for any of it.

I'm messing around on it now. It seems to load pages faster for me then IE. I like the intergraded Google stuff (I have the Google tool bar on IE) but the lack of tabs is a big draw back for me. Why hasn't apple jumped on the tab train yet?

Safari includes tabbed browsing. Go to file, click new tab. Apple just hasn't included a quick button for it.
