For me it's a "fresh air" design. It's not just a gisnt lizard that appears simply for destroy. I'm a very big fan of Goji since a kid, but once you seen one fight between Kaijuus, Goji and vehicles, you've seen them all. There's more or less iconic/spectacular fights, but the plot is always the same: Goji appears, destroy without reasons, and one monster o big weapon makes him fall back into the sea (don't misunderstand me, I love it anyway). Shin Godzilla has a more "realistic" plot with an evolving Goji, even the scenario could be a "realistic" reaction to a menace like that. The unknown and unstoppable threat. For the first time in years, this incarnation of Goji convinced me that he was an authentic menace.
No, I never talked about Godzilla before with someone, so I don't know. In my circle of friends, nobody likes it.
I'm not a fan of the Shin design either. I think it looks like a failed abortion. The movie itself was good, but it didn't do anything to make me love that design thanks to the terrible CGI that was stiffer than a... well... I can't say it without getting an infraction.
I ordered the Monsterarts Biollante at AwesomeCollector.com, also doing a discounted price and free shipping. The other site that was posted earlier was in CA so was going to have to pay sales tax, but Awesome Collector is in another state, so works for me! $262.55 shipped.
I didn't like Shin's style at first in the promo images, but it totally won me over after seeing the movie. I regret passing on the 2nd and 3rd form Monsterarts, they're not too bad in the aftermarket, so will probably get them eventually. I realize I'm really winding down on my Godzilla collecting. There's really only so much more I want. With Biollante it might be the end, unless someone starts making the other 60's/70's kaiju.
Yes, it's like they designed, like a mutated being with open wounds. They intented to make the movie with a "classic" style, mixing practical effects and not much CGI. Even the eyes are wobbly like the 54' Gojira. It's perturbing.
First, you can like whatever you want for any or no reason, so this is not a judgement on you. I don't think Shin Godzilla showed us a monster that humanity was unable to deal with. I think it showed us a monster that humanity was prepared to deal with before he even emerged. The team of cut and paste characters finally found out that Goro Maki had Godzilla's gene sequence and weaknesses literally written down on paper before he ever emerged from the sea. Then they forced straws down his throat and gave him a severe brain freeze. What's scary about that? His heat ray is way overpowered but then he needs a two week nap after he uses it. What's scary about that? LMAO!! I couldn't believe how he barely moved at all. Shin Godzilla is realized using 100% CGI. There's not a practical creature effect in the movie. The only practical effect technique is when they tried to make Kayoko Ann Paterson speak English and we saw how that turned out.
Manel is referring to the animatronic Shin Godzilla originally built for the film but scrapped in favor of full CGI.
Maybe that was his intention but it's still incorrect. Shin was going to be mostly CGI from the outset. With that being said, I wish they had use the large puppet in the movie. It looked great. "Perturbing" I think he said, and I agree.
I have nothing more to say I can't understand a single word from that girl They deleted almost all the escenes with the puppet, but some scenes they used the animatronic with a massive coat of CGI. We deserve a figure like this from SHMonsterarts:
I for one didn't find Shin Godzilla all that impressive I mean Godzilla's look was unique, but it just looked like a love child of Freddy Krueger and well Godzilla.
Shin wasn't impressive at all, But I still like him. If utilized properly he could be terrifying. (He needs to be buffed badly.)
True, there are alot of things to improve if they wanted to do a sequel (if that ever happens or not). Back on SHMA talk I've checked the price on BBTS and even though it makes me cringe a bit I'm still getting her or I might try another online retailer. Who knows.
I don't know how it works, but the Goji rights are shared between Legendary and Toho. Toho can't make a new movie until 2021, personally I think that ShinGoji needs a sequel... because I want more toys haha.
Making a comparison with the earthquake that destroyed Japan on 2011, the final message of the film is that a group is stronger than a one single being ("together, strong"), like humans have done. Gojira-san just realized this at the end of the film and he was starting to split in some kind of hive. So YESSSS, I need more toys hahaha. Lots of Gojis everywhere!!.
