The King Kong vs. Godzilla Godzilla is fantastic, the new one looks great too but I don't have it in hand yet.
Honestly the Heisei (and video game) ones done so far are the weakest NECA efforts, but all the Showa Godzillas are cool.
I agree with Chosen. I have the Space Godzilla Godzilla and I'm not a fan. I like the '85 Godzilla enough but I don't love it. The '54 is ok but a little cartoonish in the head I think, at least compared to the SH Monsterarts one.
I think their Showa figures are better mainly due to them being newer & NECA having learned a few things over the years. The only figures of theirs that I think are real misses are the 1954 and 2014 versions. The others are fine if you don't already have (or want to spend the extra money on) the SHF equivalents. I'm a big fan of the 2001 Godzilla, but NECA decided to drybrush him in a very greenish grey that just isn't right at all. He's also a bit more hunched over than I think he should be. Still a very solid figure, jus a couple of nitpicks really. Since you've got the SHM 2019 Godzilla, I'd recommend checking out your Target stores for their exclusive NECA "Burning" variant made of translucent red plastics & bright orange pint apps. I found mine about a week before Xmas, and I haven't seen one in stores since, but you never know.
The 1994/5 sculpt isn’t a very good likeness compared to the many other figures and there’s no extra-chonk in the legs for 95. They’re still better than 1985, the former mutated chipmunk that still has such odd deformities in the sculpt that (I suspect David Silva did this too) its sculptor doesn’t even include on his website portfolio. 1954 is in the right ballpark though not as good as 1962 and 1964. Those are the crown jewels, the ones I’d pursue if I was comfortable giving NECA money again. I did forget about 2001, which has small things odd about it but has potential, and Shin, which isn’t an amazing likeness but gets worse in certain poses, which is how we got that Playmates abomination.
I also think the 84 is an abomination and @Bountyhunter3232 wanted Shin so i may get him anyway (if i like 94/95 i should like Shin)
A lot of people think Shin is cute, but mainly the second stage, Kamata-kun. Less sure about the fourth form, at least for cuteness.
I got the Rodan/Mothra set yesterday & while I mainly bought it for Rodan, I came away being most impressed with Mothra. I didn't realize it until I had her in-hand, but her wings have the same kind of sculpted texture on them that the NECA version has. All the pictures I'd seen looked like they were pretty much a smooth surface & seeing the detail now really enhances my appreciation for the figure. I do think that NECA had the better idea by making the wings slightly translucent & not giving the colored markings such a "graphic" look, but I think that the SHM version is the better overall figure. Rodan, well... I do think that the SHM has the better sculpt (especially the head) and overall stability, but NECA easily has the better paint apps. I wish neither version had used the rigid ABS plastic for the entire wing structure, especially the fingers. Frankly, I'm surprised to see Bandai using it here when they've been using pretty rigid PVC for lots of SHM parts over the years. PVC which would hold up just as well for the wings, yet still allow some give so the fingers wouldn't be a breakage concern. But I'm happy that I finally have -a- SHM Rodan, I guess I just need to add the fire/lava/whatever effect to the wing edges myself.
I have an odd request can i see the movie monster series Kiryu (the one without the cannons) next to one of the two neca heisei Godzillas please?
I'll definitely agree with you that Kamata-kun is adorable, but phase 4 Shin? I'll admit his eyes are cute, but beyond that I don't see it
I'm slowly finally going through my containers post-moving so that I can dig out my Godzilla collection, and I think I have that 6" Kiryu... but not the NECA figures, lol. Different strokes for different folks - Oxford Reference I don't have the NECA for comparison, but I'm not too unhappy with Mothra overall. The only headscratcher is the body color. It looks like it's trying to capture her appearance during the Boston fight but doesn't quite work as intended. Not sure if Bandai is going to give her another attempt with this being GvK's year and every other major kaiju in the movie covered. Speaking of missing kaiju, Y-MSF announced they're doing a vinyl figure of Behemoth... cannot wait.
