There's definitely something going on with Megatron's backpack. The design isn't trying to minismise the kibble. Look at his legs, for example. The trademark circular pieces are quite small. The original toy, show design and MP all have quite large circular pieces. They could have gotten away with circular pieces nearly twice as large, but yet they've chosen not to, instead adding to the backpack.

I think it will definitely detach, as will the dino-tail. They'll combine into a battle station with the dino-tail acting as some kind of central cannon for figures to man.

Be that as it may, it doesn't explain why they didn't make the most of the circular pieces to eat up the kibble that would end up on his back. I think there's more to it all than meets the proverbial.

Interesting, could be. However, I think the circular pieces aren’t as big as they can be to keep the beast mode’s legs shaping relatively realistic..?

Looks like the size of the hip launchers is limited by the arched rail system inside the thigh shells.

That's my impression too. Teenage me was struck by how odd the circular hips looked on the original toy; shrinking those parts down let's them fit inside a plausibly shaped thigh.

I look at it through the prism of the larger WFC Trilogy. Leader class figures have been, for the most part, a Voyager-ish-sized figure + bits (be it additional pieces like Shockwave or a trailer like Prime). Megatron's back kibble turning into an additional point of playability would fit the pattern.

That's only really the case because of the whole scale thing, and that the character selection didn't really lend itself to particularly large 'bots.

Not saying that Megatron doesn't necessarily have some other gimmick with his kibble, because there's certainly enough of it there, but he's actually a pretty big dude so they shouldn't have to apply the smaller dude + add-on parts gimmick with him.

He's 7 inches tall, so he's around the height of Doubledealer. Besides, the back is pretty clean from what I've seen. Don't know why he looks like a mess in that pic.

Perhaps the stars aligned allowing them to do both: he could be a big guy in his own right and the kibble could do something. Hopefully Saturday gives us some answers.

7.5 inches to Cyclonus' 7, according to the blurbs.

Since Beast Wars has a very limited cast of characters, do we think they might release updated versions of the original toyline in the "Generations Selects"?
Or maybe they'll do Transmetal themed repaints?

no on both counts. New molds isn't selects m.o. and as for Transmetal repaints, those would be better suited to new molds. There's plenty of alternate decos to pick from for most of the BW characters already
