What the transformation? That’s usually a given with them. It’s rare to find a transformation that isn’t needlessly complicated or has poor clearance with them.

I don’t think FT Prime, when released, will use the same exact mold as the Magnus. FT is not using the exact same mold even for similar characters, such as Hunk and Aussie.

Also, there’s no indication for now that FM-01 would be a Prime. Someone on Facebook even suggested that FM-01 will be Magnus and FM-02 Ultra Magnus (an interesting theory, but I don’t think it will come to that).

I would like to think that the thighs on their Optimus Prime wouldn’t be as thick as they are in the pictures, since the thighs in the Magnus prototype don’t get any armor on them in armored mode and are meant to look right and be in scale with the armored Ultra Magnus mode.

Edit: If I’m correct about that. The thighs look different in armored mode compared to the unarmored mode, but the breakaway picture doesn’t show any armor flying off of the thighs (that I can see), so I’m really not sure, to be honest. It could be that the block in the middle of the thigh can be turned around, but again, I’m not sure.

Technically true for Hunk and Aussie. The molding is different but the engineering is almost exactly the same. Which I don't think is a negative, I think it's smart. They're putting in the work to make them distinct without adding more extra expense then necessary.

I could easily see Magnus Prime and OG Prime being nearly identical but with changes made to accommodate not needing the Magnus Armor. New Age did something similar with their Prime mold.

Agreed, the end result has to be a very similar vehicle, so the engineering will probably be the same, but the the details may make the difference (and male their Prime more appealing to some).

I could be tempted by this...provided FT throws in a well-done season 1 head.

The more I’ve thought about it the more I feel like FT’s prime will be significantly different than this magnus. Sorta like trailbreaker/hoist or brawn/outback. Similar structure but I don’t think they treat prime like a repaint

I don't think it's gonna be that drastic, maybe just more show accurate molding on the hips and things and a brand new head.

I have my MP Prime in the Magic Square version, but I'll follow this to see where it goes. His proportions aren't exactly toon but he does look good anyway

The blue part of his crotch seems rather big?

The truck bed is so low and flat! It doesn't look like there is enough material to form the legs, even if they are hollow inside. It can't be that part of the leg goes inside the cab?

I'm surprised that it looks rather good/promising. I thought I won't be so easily impressed after MS-02. :D

Just been messing a bit with TE Prime and can’t help but feel it’s so close yet so far. Looks great. Great build quality. But the articulation is just short of enough for me.
The leg needs to go one more click up on the ratchet and the knee needs at least two more clicks on the bend. No ab crunch and no thigh swivel kills it. But I think one annoying thing for me is that he can’t look down. That’s actually one of my criticisms for all my figures actually.
Hoping FT do enough here to surpass this one as I recently sold my MS2.0 having decided I only need one Prime at a time. Plus needed to pay off the balance for Jive.

My TE was supposed to be replaced by MS-02 but once reviews of that hot garbage started to flood out I cancelled right quick and left TE-01 right where it was, for which my appreciation has only grown, despite its articulation shortcomings, it's a handsome and quality piece. Only FT can dethrone him now, but I fear that's literally multiple years off, if ever.

The reports of MS-02 being "hot garbage" are greatly overexaggerated. Most people with him love him, myself included. As much as I was always a TE-01 fanboy (I bought 4 copies) MS-02 is my G1 Prime now.

Definitely not hot garbage by any stretch of the imagination. Disappointing? Yes. Missed opportunities all over the place. IMO, still visually better than the TE-01 but I have no doubt the TE-01 feels better in hand. [IMG]

Same opinion here. TE feels better, but MS-02 looks better TO ME and he has replaced TE (and MP44) on my main autobot shelf.

MS is by no means garbage. Great figure with extremely good articulation and great to pose.
I just have to be very selective over my collection for financial restrictions.
Whether FT Prime is years off is debatable. Two, maybe. Once Margh is out this core-bot is there for all the repaints FT want. TE and MS have both done this… I know it’s not strictly an “FT” thing to do, historically. That doesn’t mean it’s out of the question though.
I wonder if they’ll decide to repaint Acousticwave as Soundblaster when they design Ratbat, Overkill and Slugfest to go with Buzzsaw… Twincast might happen at some point…
Up to this point FT haven’t really touched repaint character territory so it’s good to see Astrotrain getting some love and attention in the repaint department, and Galvatron in toy colours. Maybe this is a sign of a few things to come?
Do they put out G2 Stunts and Aerials once the combiner is out for a year or so?
Not for me but wouldn’t shun the idea for anyone into G2 options… I think the Dinobots were the only other repaints they’ve done…
Anyway, I’m digressing… FT Prime for the win on my display :)

I adore my MS-02. But for Fans Toys loyalists nothing that isn't covered in paint (scratches) and full of enough diecast to bludgeon someone to death with is going win them over.

Enough diecast to bludgeon people with is high on my list of qualities for robots in my collection.

Not a loyalist but I do understand why people like paint because it displays well and looks high-end. I like to transform and muck about with some figures and for others to look really purdy on the shelf. In the end, it’s just about the functionality of one’s collection.

I think there’s still room for another Optimus Prime in the marketplace, something well-painted with a heroic presence and not be totally toon. He will not be the one we need, but the one we deserve.
