EDIT: All right all right! Everybody shut yer yappin' traps!

I went ahead and looked into it for myself.

    LOOK:

Turns out the video game model is absurdly inaccurate, whereas the toy is FAR closer to the movie model. At least that's the way things look right now. Some of you might say Sideways is in mid-transformation when he's doing that roll dive; and that's true. But how much of his upper torso has transformed in the 2 frames I posted? I think they serve as fair reference.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(the following is the old portion of the post)

This really deters me from buying him. Standing alone, he looks good as a toy. But simply because I know he's modeled after his movie design - and very poorly - it chaps my ass. The sides of his chest are supposed to move upward and back - and the lights that show up are supposed to be his tail lights, not head lights.

    :banghead:

Should I quit my bitchin', and just buy him? Or should I rally some protesters in front of Hasbro HQ?

You could just not buy it.

Sideways is the massive shelfwarmer around here (after preview Bumblebee... Surprisingly beating out Breakaway), so you'll have plenty of time for it to grow on you.

All I know is, if I do end up buying him, I'm going to give him a lot of modifications.

    1. Paint his hood and roof black
    2. Paint pin stripes on him
    3. Remove that silly wheel on his left wrist (I know the movie design has it, but on the toy it's a 5th wheel *facepalm*) -and replace it with a custom made saw blade of some sort.

The figure rocks. And don't forget, that's the videogame design, which is not exactly how he will look in the movie.

My only complaint with him is his tiny feet.

We seem to be treading into Macross "it looks nothing like the lineart" complaints here and that's never a good thing.

Wow, didn't know the differences were that big..first he doesn't have the cool black/striped pattern over his car mode, now this...

I will definitely pick him up still, but this is kinda disappointing, since I'm a big fan of accuracy. :p  As a toy though, I think he will still kick skidplate!

Its expected.. I must admit though that it looks pretty close...

Speaking of which, my Sideways is still in "Audi R8" mode.. I have not yet transformed him since getting him and opening it up last weekend... The car mode just looks too cool..

    Well, don't buy it then.

I actually prefer the toy design. The videogame design still seems to be 'stuck' in the TF1 aesthetic that every single part should be turned at a 45 degrees angle.

I don't think you will ever find a transformer that matches the CGI version 100%. There are certain liberties they can take in a rendering that can't be done in a transforming toy. If that is truly your hang-up you are going to miss out on a fantastic figure. He is all kinds of fun to transform.

He's as inaccurate as the vast majority of the Movie toys are. For me, that makes him (and others) a pass, but they're clearly still excellent toys - so it depends what your reason for buying TFs is, really. If it's purely about the toys, you can't go wrong, if it's about having something that represents what's on-screen, it'll be unhappy money.

Well nbone of his figures can sewem to agree on a design. Give the robot heroes and the deluxe to a member of the public and they will think they are meant to be two different characters.

And anyway, getting toys just because they are on tv or in the movie rather than the merits of the actual toys is quite foolish anyway.

    Car mode: cool

    Robot mode: goofy

Mines staying in the package, and it's with the first issue sticker.
