Hey f_r, did you think of getting a fine point gundam marker in silver at all?? I just tried a black one to out line the flames on my 07 prime, and it lokks like maybe, just maybe the tip is thin enough to get what you want with out the stiff wrist. I'm not sure they make one in silver though, but it might be worth lookin into.

Thinnest (silver opaque) marker I can find both at stores and online is a 2mm. They all seem to use paint. I even tried to "kitbash" the marker's felt tip to refine and make it thinner, but no luck. I wanted the lines very thin. Next round, I will be using a scriber I ordered online.

not sure. I did read though that the Prime in europe only says "Optimus Prime" and not "I am Optimus Prime" so it's possible they gimped more features... here's mine looking up, left, down, at swoop flying by.

I took a gander at my friends and only got a few glances in before he transformed it into a truck.

Where would the LED go? And would the battery pack have to be made or would a light doodad from the dollar store work and just replace the led? Like one of the key chain lights or something?

I'm gonna use those finger laser lights, I'll store the batter and switch in his forearm.
pack of 5 for $1 on ebay usually. and they are super bright and the batts last forever.

Can't wait to see it. Do you think you'll be able to "stop" the light from shining behind the painted silver parts?

I'll try to use paint to control the light's power and where it shows more, but there's only so much I can do with 1 bulb coming from the back.

Ultimately, I would be great to recast the sword, hollow it out and then install several leds down the length of the blade.

did you try searching for that before you asked? just asking because "finger laser light" "LED finger light" "finger light" and several other searches yield thousands of results.

Graahhh not having this figure in hand is frustrating. But from the pics I am looking and knowing the swords flip from underneath, the only logically place I can think of having the led is by drilling out a hole in the outside forearm panel where the end of the sword meets it.

And if I'm not mistaken the sword has a light orange paint layer on right?

Wow this is the first time I will say that paint actually took away from the detailing.

Also instead of leds running down a hollowed out sword. What about colored fiber optic wire?

nice idea. paint to work with, and they don't really seem to "spray" light like an LED would, more like a specific tiny spot only.

Fiber optic is designed to carry light to the end point and not spread outside that. Now let's say you sanded and flattened a side of a light pipe, theoretically the light would be visible on that area.

    Illuminating Hair Light Strands

This stuff "seems" to give off light both at the end tips and the running length of the wire. But these pics could be glossed up and lies. Or it could depend on the color. These have 8 colors to choose from sunburst orange being one of them.

But it also has what is described as "A small barrette houses two tiny batteries and a light source, which lights up the ends of the fibers." Which might mean half the work for making a battery compartment might be done for us already. I might buy some this week and see how well it is.

RD =That looks like EL wire to me.

F_R = Have you considered casting the blade and recasting it while encasing some EL card in the middle?
