A little more than straight-forward-repaint. Made the entire car into a uniform color, metallic blue, and added a glosscoat. Drybrushed the front grill, outlined the back licenseplate, added a reprolabel on the hood, painted the windows black, to break the colours up a little. The robot-mode IS pretty straightforward. I did choose a darker metal for brybrushing. His eyes are gold. He has a new faction logo on the chest. Instead of electro-whips, he got his weapons repainted as blades, way cooler. There's still some factory blue at pegs and tabs, but I'm not so bothered by it, so I'm unsure if I'll shave 'em down and paint them. Guess I'm lazy haha... Anyway! ...
The robot mode looks great! Jolt looks so much better with a painted chest, and the metallic apps look great.
Very nice! That figure is WAY better than the official pictures make him look and your repiant even better.
Thank you, guys. It's true, he's actually my favorite deluxe. However, out of the box, the paint-apps are a bit underwhelming, but he's got so much molded detail and once you bring that out with some paint he just looks like a cgi robot.
Not that big a fan of the autobot insignias you put on your figures, but the metallic blue you used is really good. Anything to replace that allspark blue......
Awesome drybrushing and detail work, man. I also love how you made the whole color scheme look in bot mode. I'm also not a fan of the huge red G1 autobot logos on the movie guys, though.
Thanks, guys. @petes: uhuh! Allspark is a definite no-no. It's as plastic-looking as plastic can look! @mampy: I know, you're mr. Movie-Accurate. I did look at F_R's Jolt, but just for ideas. I like how I transform him, don't see many people putting the doorpanels underneath the hood, but it looks most movie-accurate, imo. @both: The G1 autobot logos do look a little out of place on these movie figures, but I just really like the G1autobot logos. It's a very personal touch, then.
Haha I TF my Jolt the same way. Movie accuracy gets thrown out the window with Jolt, unfortunately, coz we never really get a good look (or any pics) of him. All I know is that the movie CG model is slim-built and blue. It just boils down to what will look good, and you did the mold justice.
Just noticed how you transformed him. I really like where you put the doors. Paints look good. Great job on color matching. My only gripe would be the Autobot symbols. Just don't care for the white border, it just makes them scream "sticker".
Yeah, you're absolutely right, I find, however, that they have a certain charm and it adds a (sort of) hommage to the TF's G1 roots. I hope I'm making sense here. Yes, it screams 'sticker', but it also scream 'AUTOBOT'. =)
Robot mode is a big improvement. Nice work. It's a decent straight forward mold, a nice alternative to the some other ROTF toys which are fairly complex.
