Hey whats up fellas? Well...Today my ROTF Skids broke...yup. A warning to all: Be careful when breaking down his backpack, because today while doing so, the green slab in the middle of the roof cracked. It bent in half and there was no way to fix it, so I just went ahead and broke it completely. No need in trying to salvage something with a HUGE stress mark in the middle of roof. I guess I'll be buying a new one to go with Mudflap..I'm so pissed off. Now this figure is doomed to stay in robot mode. This really pisses me off. Not only is he my least favorite TF from this line to put back into Alt mode, now he's broken. I'll post pics later when my g/f gets home with my camera, in case you guys are having a hard time figuring out which part I am talking about.
I know exactly what piece you're talking about....I've been worried about breaking that piece myself. I always make sure to keep pressure underneath it when trying to force it between the other pices of the roof. It really wasn't the most well thought-out piece of engineering. It's just way too tight.
It certainly is. I don't know what really went wrong today. The back pack was just starting to break down easier..and of course today I just had to forget to put my finger back behind it to apply pressure. The crappy thing is, that I wasn't even trying to change him into a robot. I was going back to car mode. I had already popped it back into "roof" mode, but I was having trouble getting the arms lined up to fit underneath the rear of the vehicle. So I was going to pop the rear up to put the arms together, and BAM. The green piece got lodged on the rear hatch and before I knew it the middle part was bent all to hell with a big white stress mark down the middle. I guess this gives me an excuse to buy another Skids now, and get the one with painted teeth. I just feel like a sucker, and hate to spend the money, because I was originally going to paint the teeth myself.
In the future the best thing to do is to take the trunk area are bend it down a bit at the hinge to give the panel clearance.
I'm gonna be careful as hell with the next one I buy, but damn...I dunno what to do with this guy. He's fine in robot mode, but it's a pretty big flaw in alt mode. It's funny because his backpack is actually much more unobtrusive now that it is broken lol. However, having a broken figure is gonna bug the shit out of me. What would you guys do? buy a new one? or just keep this one in robot mode? Appreciate it man. For sure. I usually do, I guess I was just too careless today.
Haha awesome. I was thinking about taking it back to the Walmart I bought it at and being like...."WTF? This is all because of quality control!I want a new one!"...but I dunno I'd feel kind of dick, because maybe it was all my fault. However, they should have engineered the backpack to break down easier. As I've never broken one of my figures before, and I have MP Megatron, and have transformed him many times with no problems. For having no problems with a figure that is notorious, I feel like this is somewhat Hasblows fault. Little kids everywhere need to be warned lol. If it can happen to pros like us, I can just see little kids everywhere going bonkers because their Skids just bit the dust.
this is one time i would actually take it back if i bought a new one and take the broke one back............probably the only time i would consider it.
As long as they know it's defective, they'll send it back to Hasbro and receive a replacement to sell anyways right?
I guess you are right. I'm gonna get the blister pack, card and my receipt and head off to walmart in a bit. Hopefully they have one with painted teeth. I hope whatever person I encounter in the customer service department is cool.
Scratch that. I guess I wont be doing that, because all I can find is his Cardback, and I don't have a clue what I did with the receipt. You guys think I would have any luck trying to return him under those circumstances? A broken figure and a cardback without the receipt?
that rooftop on skids, for me, is simply a design flaw. same with rotf leader prime's chest pieces and city commander's leg piece.
O: Might as well give it a shot. The cardback at least has the UPC (doesn't it?) and it's a toy on the shelves right now.
Unfortunately the card back doesn't have any kind of barcode on it. The barcode they scan is actually on the plastic blister pack. I haven't tried to take it back yet, I don't know if I am even going to give it a shot, but if I do then I'll let you guys know how it goes.
Good News! After sitting here watching tv, with the g/f, for awhile I got tired of thinking about my broken Skids, and headed to my local Target with the card back, and the toy. Long story short, the lady that waited on me at customer service cut me a break for not having a receipt, and now I have a brand new Skids (with painted Teeth). yay. Appreciate everyone that posted their thoughts and condolances.
I am reminded of why I felt that I should take a file to the edges near that part, to make it some clearance space. always did figure it was a point that would be at risk of failure. >.>
