It's the designers thinking outside the box. The robot can move alot faster on two wheels than on two feet. It looks amazing so far.
If they wanna look at the functional point of view, they could always let the wheels fold backward behind his heels, and fold forward when needed, while still maintaining conventional feet.
I'm hoping against hope that Sideswipe does the "Batman & Robin" trick of jumping in the air and the wheels just pop out into place, rather than being a permanent mode of "walking". My other question reguarding the "movieverse" is the use of "battlemode" I understand Prime wears his mask when fighting, but Ironhide (seen in these CGI renders), Bumblebee, and Jazz all had battlemode facemasks in the first film too, but only sporatically use them (easily seen on the Bluray). If Robert Orci is reading this thread too, is that ever discussed when making the movies?
not sure if this was posted yet. i skipped all 27 pgs of replys. is it me or do you think Skids and Muddflap will combine at all? look at the bots. each one has one arm bigger than the other. skids right arm and fist are bigger than the left. and muddflaps left arm and fist are bigger than the right.???
I think the vertical centerline Transformation (like Safeguard) is a feature that might exist on the ice cream truck - but from what the GM boss was saying the combination of the twins as a function after they were reformated has been removed. in their later form (asuming the twins are the icecream truck). I'm a little disapointed that Sideswipe does not have proper feet sometimes. I look forward to seeing more of these pictures such as Optimus and Jetfire Combined, or The Ice Cream truck... as well as the kitchen crew and other small part robots. They will probably look better lit. It's still quite hard to make out Starscream's Tatoos in the CGI model though. I'd have liked to have seen Ratchet get a new color though for the sequel tan might have been nice.
Um... which pics could POSSIBLY be game renders? Dude, it's blatantly obvious they are promotional renders like the art leaked two years ago, that was found on birthday party napkins, school lunchboxes, notebooks, t-shirts, etc. Not the poorly animated, squarish blocks of some cheap PS3 game.
Is this supposed to be Jazz? It kinda looks like his grill and to be honest I don't remember what his fave looks like.
That's Sideswipe, who is a Corvette Stingray. Jazz was a Pontiac Solstice I believe, although admittedly they do look a wee bit similar when reconstructed into robot bodies.

The one chasing the Audi R8/Sideways? Not quite, that's one of the motorcycle sisters, which there are 3 of.
