It looks way more faithful to the character than anyone can imagine with Paramount in charge.
Strange that he keeps his faceplate while Prime likes to show his crab face, when the opposite is true of both. 

 

Primal looks really good! I am liking the design! I just wish they added some more red/white color to the robot mode... Even some more silver would help. Anything to help distinguish the Beast mode from the robot mode during the movie fight scenes. Hopefully they can edit that in before the film is out.

 

I'm starting to agree that he could use some more color. Other than that, he looks neat.

Well, that was just prime.

 

It's not 'more colour' that's necessarily the problem here, it's the lighting of the robot. He's lit in the same way as if he's in the final fight of RotB that we saw in the trailer, details are obscured and he does not feel realistically because of a lack of shadows and reflections and how he was clearly inserted into the shot.

With that said, more colour could definitely help this design. It feels so underwhelming. The Bay-verse asthetic was a mistake and now they are returning to that asthetic.

I think the 'jump back' transformation is really stupid, at first I thought it was rewound and that the transformation was meant to occur the other way (Robot to Gorilla), but now I think it's a legitimate transformation taken from the movie

I agree there is some trickery here, but the Transformation does have a few seemingly legitimate steps that will likely inspire the toy. I've been running through the transformation a few times and here is how it goes:

• A plate on the back lifts up revealing an empty gap
• The Gorilla head folds back into that empty gap and is covered by the plate
• The robot mode head pops up out from the chest
  
• The shoulder pads pop off the shoulders and fold under his armpits to become his upper chest covering
• Two plates from his back in Gorilla mode slide onto his shoulders to become his new shoulder pads, presumably revealing where his sword were stored
  
• The arm covering pops off the arm, folds in half and then pops back onto the arm covering the hairy bit
• The piece of armouring on his upper legs rotates around his leg to be on the back
  
• The piece of armouring on his lower legs splits in half and folds onto either side
  
• Primal's middle toe flips up and is covered by a plate on each foot, changing from five fingers to four toes

The head aspect seems inspired by a storage method used for Beast Machines' Optimus Primal.

There was and maybe it’s me but the proportions or the overall body here look a little better than the first shot in the trailer. Just something here looks better than the trailer.

 

Looks good from this angle. Definitely better than the trailer. But the waist and arms look too slim for me :/

Still don't get why they chose to go for this concept art design and not the finalized one we saw in BB. Also while I don't have a gif a lot of his parts seem to still clip into eachother.
