So much for them not being monochrome because...yeah. Really kinda defeats the purpose of having the robot bits exposed as a visual aesthetic if you can't readily identify them from the animal parts in the first place.

 

Except for Airazor, these look exactly like @Lazlow007's concept art, the lighting is just different.

They look real and look good. Man I really like Rhinox’s beast mode.

 

They look about what I'd expected.

These would be fine if their robot modes didn't appear to be so devoid of color.

 

Caple really seems to like rusty brown for some reason. Scourge, Primal, Rhinox, Airazor, and Wheeljack all seem to sport this color...

It really seems like they didn't learn anything from the Bumblebee movie designs. I don't recall anyone complaining "there's too much color in the Bumblebee movie".

 

I kind of get what they were going for with the beasts, but then why not give Wheeljack some colour?

 

I’d really love to be a fly on the wall at the meetings they have when making these films. Because how the hell do they come up with certain creative decisions

All jokes aside, yeah I think it is a common theme amongst some of the characters. The gold panels on Nightbird's car also look like they're rusty but that's part of the colour.
I think Stratosphere will also have some rusty brown on his robot mode too.

 

To be honest I've really felt that way about all of these films in general.  

 

I'm guessing there's going to be a recurring story element that these beings have been on earth, waiting, for a long time, and are now moving into action. Hence, rust.

Because all alien robots are made out of uncoated carbon steel instead of like, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, composites etc. etc. etc.

 

Wow ! Are those the same concept arts they showed at the virtual kick-off event ? They look really dope ! I hope we see Scourge next...

 

Did not expect Primal’s art to literally be retooled from the old TLK art.

 

... For some reason this made me think about Cosmic Rust in general, and how the Maximals kind of look like a leper colony.
