Opted to take the ratchets out of AW's outward shoulder movement. The teeth are just too far spaced to be any fun.

I did this exact thing. I did it for the front to back ratchets too so I could have a more natural elbow bend. I prefer micro adjustments over clunky ratchets. Or at least my perfectionism does

How do you remove the front to back ratchets? I have less of an issue with them but was thinking about doing that too.

You know the panel that plugs into the side of the chest and allows the arms to swing back for transformation? There are 2 screws on the back of that. It's pinned too, so you gotta pull it apart and slide it down the pin. Just work it and it'll come apart

As desirable as that is, I think that's slightly nastier than I'd like to get myself into. Definitely for future consideration though!

I think I will give this a go. Ratchets are great but overrated and not for every joint. Well designed friction joints are so much better for a fine tuned range of articulation.

Has anyone figured out how to take apart Acoustic Wave’s chest? I’m trying to figure out if I can change the spring for his shoulder button to make opening the chest easier.

I took all the screws out inside his chest and the ones in the depression where his shoulders plug into, but something else is still holding his chest together. I think there are a couple of screw covers that may be hiding more screws (on the bottom/back part of the sides of his torso).

These pics made me realize the wrists are on ball joints (my AW is still on the way).

Do they feel like they’ll hold up long term? Does it feel like the weight of the weapon would cause it to eventually sag?

I think it's mostly concern if you overtighten the screws, since they're providing all the tension. Worst case scenario in my mind is the arm starts to get a little floppy and I reinstall the ratchets, lol.

They feel pretty good. Mine aren't super mega tight, especially on the right hand, but I don't think they're at massive risk of going loose on you. The weapon is pretty light, with no diecast. If you had him, say, holding up a dinobot with his super strong ratchet joints, I could see the wrists eventually failing on you. Also you could always tighten the screws holding the hands together over the ball joint to increase tension if it really was needed.

The springs everywhere on this guy are just way too strong for what they're used for. If you look at the springs in the shoulders, they're super thick, which means stiff, and that doesn't help anyone

Versus super strong springs fighting against plastic teeth that can bend? I'll take my chances with better control over my articulation and barely touching the figure other than to transform him anyways. Besides if you really need to, you can tighten the screw or tighten the joint with polish or something similar

While we're tearing our Acoustic Waves apart, let's install a new neck! (Courtesy of @transformer_78 who graciously gave me the files to print my own!)

Pretty simple installation and I was able to pop it all together with minimal fuss. Now he can look down and even tilt his head!

Also, swapping the chest piece out was pretty tough. Getting the face off was downright scary. I’m really happy with all of the toy options. It really makes me happy.
This might dethrone roadking as my favorite figure.
