Do you think this new product could be stepping away from what we love about Transformers as toys?

I think it's very possible that this Optimus would be obsolete in two years, but why would it be at the hands of some KO company? This isn't some Takara Tomy MP that theoretically could easily be improved by KO companies by adding some ratchets or diecast or remolding some questionable parts (and KO companies haven't been doing a good job at this lately). If Optimus here is to be obsoleted, wouldn't it be much more likely that it happens at the hands of Robosen themselves or another similar company?

Going by their website, the Robosen T9 has 22 servo motors and 3,000 parts. Optimus has 27 servo motors and 5,000 parts. They didn't mention how many microchips T9 has, but I'd imagine Optimus, at 60 microchips, has a few more of those too. Adding licensing fees for Transformers, the $700 price point doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. I mean, the T9 is an infinitely harder sell than an Optimus Prime (for instance, I might only think about getting the T9 at $150 or less), so as a company that probably would like to make money, you'd expect them to try to get as much as they reasonably can with the license. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like the $700 price is fairly reasonable both when I first looked at this Optimus in motion and when compared to the T9.

This figure is way too unintentionally hilarious. I don't know what entertains me most:

    1. The fact that his look is clearly based on MP-10, right down to the headsculpt (A-OK with me since that's still my favourite MP Optimus)
    2. The fact that his box art is Evergreen Optimus for no reason, even though it's a completely different design???
    3. The fact that Hasbro actually bought & licensed a formerly unlicensed 3rd-party design... for maybe the first time ever:
    Senpower remote controlled optimus prime

I have no idea how many of these they expect to sell or how many people want it at that price. Not for me, but I'm entertained by its very existence!

Incredible and well worth the money. Outstanding on all levels. Just need to figure out if it’s for me

A little too try hard for my taste.

Dunno, feels like the Jingle all the way movie toy that Arnie was hunting down.

Now they just need to create an auto-transforming Megatron that goes from robot to working Walther P-38 with shooting bullets to complete the set!

(That was a sarcastic joke, btw)

I can see this as only a novelty, one-off figure. I can't see them doing any other characters besides Optimus. Even though other characters could be done; no one would have the 'purchase power' of Optimus, for that price point, I feel. And unless they tank-ify G1 Megatron again; that's not happening (alluding to my joke from the last post).

Needless to say, I'm not getting this. It is impressive what they can do now...but a Transformer that takes the fun of transforming it out of it by doing it for you? And at that price point? Props to getting Peter Cullen to do the voice again, but that's not enough to make me pay for this...

They need to transform that price down a few hundred bucks to get me to bite.

When I saw it during the stream, I was initially too focused on how random Jay & Silent Bob were to be doing the product intro and demo. Once I got past that (to be honest, I'm still not sure I really have figured that out), I thought the figure was an interesting oddity, and probably somewhere in the $200 - $300 range. When I saw $699, it was like one of those cartoon / movie moments for me - I nearly spit my drink out and said an audible "what!?!". Unicron was $600 or so, right? Is this thing that much more impressive than Unicron? Unicron was out of my price range, and this thing definitely is. I'm fortunate enough that I can afford the titan size class and some MP items (though the prices on the latter, coupled with the rehashing of the same characters over and over, is moving me out of that), but this Optimus, while interesting, is just far too rich for my blood. Cheers to those that both want - and can afford - it, though!

Impressive, but not good enough. You make a combining devastator and then you will have my money. All of it.

I'm curious to see more of what you can do with the "create" and "missions" buttons in the app.

If this toy is successful do you think Hasbro will buy Robosen?

Old as hell. Funny how much the price got jacked up, after licensing.

Fuck me. Unicron was 600 bucks. I thought that was the limit.

Show me the old version and the original MSRP, please. And the features, and everything else this thing does.

My offer still stands, you send me a link and I’ll buy it for you. No joke.

Or, you can stop being a cheap basement dweller and quit trolling.
